i don't know about the durability of something actually 3d printed. for sterling, they print in wax and then cast using the traditional lost wax method. my hook should be just as durable as any other cast sterling object.

as far as leverage, well there is a choil and lanyard/keyring hole. i didn't have any difficulty in pulling doors open (both the stationary handle as seen in the picture, or the lever type...knobs are still an issue. i do have it on a loop of paracord, along with my superbug and minnow, so that provides plenty of extra purchase.

as for my level of crazy...well, a little. i've seen a number of guys leave the restroom without washing. besides, the hook is a conversation piece. look! we're in the middle of one :)

From my research the stainless is only about 23-25 Rockwell, which isn't very hard. You also have to remember that these are printed in layers and not cast, so the crystalline structure of the metal isn't achieved. The strength of the stainless from Shapeways comes from the bronze it absorbs during the infusion process, it fills the space the binding agent took up.

don't worry, it's not exactly obvious. they DO print in steel (powder).

All I can say is WOW! just freaking WOW.

I like the shiny conversation starter aspect of it.

The fact that someone feels strongly enough about touching toilet handles, doors, and buttons to pay~$100 not to have to, at least to me, gets into the weird zone. No offense intended, it is just that hand sanitizer is lot cheaper.

I'd probably carry a handkerchief for things before hand sanitizer. I've had hand sanitizer bust in my pocket before, and it's a bad day for everybody involved.

Actually, I am from the era when you could/would pick up the garden hose from the ground and drink from it.

So you got it not because you're necessarily afraid of germs or anything, but just germs or whatever from those specific people? :)

Don't you worry it will just transfer the germs from the handle to your pocket?

yeah. I figure if people are going to display that kind of behavior in "public," who knows what they do at home.

and we're talking about employees who work for a company that ranks at the top of the Fortune 500 list. mr buffalo-wings-while-he-pees is pulling down at least $80k.

That kind of behavior makes me angry that people like that can have that kind of job.

wouldnt it eliminate its usefulness when you have to grab it to put and take it off of your keychain? Or in your pocket, and then your hand is in pocket?

I can't even find a job right now. Maybe I should lose all sense of personal hygiene and appropriate public manners to get ahead.
