so, i had this crazy idea to have a sterling silver hook made. sterling silver has antimicrobial properties, therefore a hook made out of sterling would be the perfect thing for touching (or flushing) something that i really didn't want to touch, right? (see, that's the crazy part) i fired up sketchup and a little while later had a working model. i uploaded it to shapeways and wasn't happy with the price. back to sketchup to take off whatever i could. a bit of cubic centimeter shaving later, i had a design i liked better, shapeways priced it close to my goal, and we were off. one month to the day, this showed up via ups (it was only supposed to be 2 weeks, but the holidays...they did contact me to let me know of a delay): i boosted the edges in this pic to show off the lines left by the 3d printer. at roughly three inches in length, it fits right in with my other keychain doodads. i opted for the regular finish (not the polished) in order to see the print lines...that and i was too cheap to have a polish put on a thing that is going to get beat up on a keychain. i'll probably round the edges after a while. what have you guys and gals done?
