Never seen a rollbar on a watch. That would drive me nuts being in the way like that. Granted, I'm OCD, but my non-OCD sig/other had the same opinion....:)

Really, you guys are from the camp that believes watches are indestructible?
Bull bars have been around for a long time, it will keep the crystal from cracking in hi impact work scenarios.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Well, I'll be 70 this year and have never cracked a watch crystal despite having worked in some semi-rugged conditions earlier in my life. If you're that worried, a pocket watch with a protective cover that opens so you can actually read the time would be a better option. I think the bars serve the same purpose on most watches as most roll bars do on street cars. YMMV, though.

I've only cracked one and I doubt that bars would have saved it.

I've cracked 2 mineral glass crystals and scratched a few more, but never a sapphire. But my job may be a little rougher than most as an AV Technician/Installer. I've never damaged a crystal outside of work.

My current work watch is a Casio Mudmaster, so far so good. [IMG]

Well there was this one car accident I was in, the car rolled 2 times, I was in the front seat and my left arm went through the windshield as the roof caved in, left me with some scars on my hand and a broken watch crystal.

There were several more incidents that left my watches in the same condition and worse, some lost and some just not working anymore.
I am getting the impression that I've lived an abnormally violent life.

A lot of people say they've put their gear through some pretty rough stuff and their gear came out good as new and for the most part I believe them and that's actually terrific.

The bull bars serve the function of keeping impact away from the crystal
it serves that function well for people who reach into tight spaces made of material harder than a watch crystal, people who during the course of their job bump into walls and Door jambs while carrying heavy objects.

The scratches on my citizen here are from my old job moving furniture, bull bars would have prevented them, that I'm 95% sure of.

As a mechanic in my youth, I learned early on NOT to wear a watch or ring or anything that could be mechanically grabbed or marred while inside an engine compartment. Anyone who works in that type of environment would know this. From my perspective, the bars are unnecessary for anything approaching realistic use. Pockets do a better job than bars at protection when protection is needed and don't block the view of the watch the rest of the time. Reaching into tight spaces with a watch on is like putting one bullet in the cylinder, spinning it, then pulling the trigger to see what happens. If I'm in a rollover accident, my watch is way down the list of concerns. My view is that the bars are form getting in the way of function. That's fine if you're about style and like that, but it goes against normal functionality.

How about reaching to the back of a shelf in a grocery store, any gears to grab your jewelery in there? Nope, but there sure is the supports for the upper shelf, and bolt heads, and cans falling from on top of other cans onto your watch.

How about having already full pockets because you don't have a car or a locker, a pocket watch added to knives, keys, wallet, flashlight lighter, coins for the bus doesn't make much sense then does it?

I played a game called paintball for about a dozen years, the hopper and feedneck for the hopper smack dab in the middle of the barrel, the way to sight the paintball marker is you have to look around the feedback by ignoring it, imagine, there it is right in the foreground of where you are looking and you can still see beyond and hit your target, your eyes adapt to the obstacle and you learn how to see beyond it.

I guess the same can be true looking at a watch with bull bars on it, you train your eyes to ignore the bar, it's that simple.

my guess is you are not too good at adapting and will argue your point of view no matter what logic says. I say it works as an impact to crystal deterent, I've even owned watches with bull bars and personally observed them working, much like the raised bezel on a g-shock which was designed that particular way to prevent contact to the crystal, but you say otherwise so nothing else matters.

Your solution to prevent impact to a watch crystal is to own a pocket watch lol, most impractical.
