I’m going to be spending so much money. Not sure I should be subscribing to this thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yup. But then there is the basic principle that you get what you pay for... Keep in mind that I buy mostly value grade Seiko and Casio, so I also fish in those kinda waters... ! Am Yisrael Chai! Moshe ben David
That's true, but there's also the principle of (eventually) diminishing returns which states (paraphrasing), that most value in a product comes at entry level to intermediate price points, with higher quality/performance coming at exponential increments of price. That said, most non-enthusiasts' jaws drop when told what I paid for guitars, amps, firearms, bicycles, cigars, etc. Everyone has to choose their sweet spot. I second your opinion of Casios. I used to own a lot of Timex watches, but my perception is that the "bang for buck" factor has diminished in that brand these days. Most of their watches now only feature 50m water-resistance, which makes me shy away, too.
Not sure where the best vfm is today, it used to be Seiko but recent releases aren’t as value oriented. Casio is a step up from Timex, generally speaking, but you have to get into their Oceanus line before the quality improves substantially. Maybe it’s the micro brands Nodus, NTH, Zelos, etc. or possibly the Chinese homages from WR watches, Sharkey, Heimdallr, San Martin, etc.?
Looks like between these guys, Shinola, and Detroit Watch Company a local mini-center is growing... Kinda warms the cockles of my heart to see this from old hometown! Plus there appear to be other edc type enterprises hq'd there -- for example an outfit specializing in sheaths etc - Detroit Holster. Am Yisrael Chai! Moshe ben David
Awesome! I think this one pays homage to the vintage Seiko 6105. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
In my view it’s hard to beat the value for money of many Orient offerings. Orient Ray and Mako dive watches, which feature in house automatic movements, are currently going for $130 on amazon. The various Bambino watches are also an excellent option for a dress watch.
It’s a brand I’ve not owned as nothing really ever appealed to me enough to pull the trigger. But I would think they are good vfm for the reasons you’ve listed. The Mako II USA with white dial and black bezel was an almost buy for me though.
For a similar price and materials you should check out the Islander watches. Not sure if they have the white dial with black bezel though. I think it might just be white with blue or lumed dial with blacked out hour markings and black bezel. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using Tapatalk
