There's definitely no shortage of inventory my friend! I just haven't taken the plunge yet. I have a Seiko 5 and a Vostok sitting in my kitchen that are going soon. Probably letting go of a Luminox Navy Seals as well. And 8-10 more. My watch boxes are all full!

Most of my fall/winter shirts are some form of red, white, and blue. This one is getting the most wrist time lately.[IMG]

Would need to see pics and specs next to each other...this is good pic you took; but I just don't see anything special here. Or did you just mean that NASA finally approved the garden variety of this model G-shock?

Your right Moshe, this is the basic DW-5600E Gshock model. It is one of several DW model gshocks approved by NASA for space flight. I believe the 6600, 5900 and the 6900 are as well. This is my first non solar, non atomic G. All of the ones I listed are standard battery powered. I am assuming that has something to do with their being approved versus the newer tech. Just something the nerd side of me found cool.

KISS theory? I could see where solar could/would be an issue. The military kept tube equipment around for decades after solid state had taken over the consumer world, because it was deemed less susceptible to magnetic/electrical pulse (i.e., nuclear blast).

Now that you've explained it, I think @Tesla may be onto something... its been a running joke for many years on how the so-called computers in the NASA shuttles, capsules, etc., were out classed by your average pocket calculator these days!

It occurs to me that (a) most of the solar enabled G shock also have the atomic clock synch feature... but naturally during a space flight I could see the watch being out of range. But that's no doubt a quibble. More to the point I'll guess is that the watches, even though beyond the atmosphere could well and truly have few if any exposures to actual sunlight! I know, seems weird. But inside the shuttle or the space station or whatever, how often would the watches be exposed to sunlight? Unless someone has gotten smart and incorporated a lamp of some sort in the crew environment so the crew can also get sunlight as a health thing? Personally I'm betting not!

Since we're on the subject of Casio watches... this week this one is on my wrist: Casio AE1200WH-1A World Time. Light, comfortable, cheap -- my designated beater watch for outdoors chores also! [IMG]

Pic via Amazon. Actually where I bought it ;)
