"To be or not to be", (pedantic, that is) shouldn't that be boil & bubble?:)
What do you say when you put out the dog? "Out damned Spot!"

I sold the blue version. In a small collection, less than 5 or 6, the blue was just not as versatile. It is probably my favorite watch of the 40+ I’ve owned over the years but sacrifices must be made.
    For reference.

I admire how rigidly you limit the size of your collection.
I had a similar limit, but it grew out of control. I've finally found a few watches I don't have any real gripes with, so it feels like I can let go of all the compromise watches now. The Squale 1521 is one of them, I got the black one as well. I actually got slightly fooled in that transaction, as the watch was in worse condition than stated by the seller, but it works, and it serves as a proof of concept that I really like the 1521 and it fits my wrist very well. Will probably sell it with a significant loss and replace it with a blue one some day. Some day.

Strange you mention the deal on your 1521. I bought mine in a group of 4 watches, all in used condition, off of eBay. Found the listing by accident really and was the only bidder at $950, the guy was an overseas contractor and he would buy several and then sell them when he returned to the states - or so the story goes.

Anyway, I took a bit of a chance and bought them. The group included a Seiko Padi SNE499, SKX007, Shinola Runwell Chronograph, and the Squale. Both Seiko were NIB, the Squale was a month old (with AD papers) only the Shinola had a little wear. Sold everything but the Squale in less than a week and have about $250 real money in the 1521. Unusual deal for sure and your story reminded me.

I thought I had a pic of all 4 together but can’t find it, here is the Solar Tuna.

I totally understand and absolutely admire your self-discipline. I suffer from no such delusions...and I really need to sell 2 or 3 or 40 watches! :D

I still get the wants and do have to frequently check myself but I have finally come to the conclusion that 4-6 watches, knives or flashlights or whatever is enough. I don’t have safe queens as I use/wear everything I own. I have nice things but not terribly expensive stuff, it’s all context though.

I’ve been mostly disappointed with watches over $1,000, knives over $200 and lights over $100. So I attempt to keep most purchases under these maximums. I’ve also lost or misplaced too many expensive pens, lights and other gadgets to keep buying them.

To each their own, for sure. I like looking at high end gear and have to resist temptation all the time but having a drawer full of stuff just isn’t for me,
