I have a terrible watch story, just terrible...

When I was a kid (maybe 9-10) I found a watch. At the time my opinion of it was it looked like an 'old man's watch'. I didn't like it, but I took it home. Some time later I was going through some stuff and I showed it to Mom, and she asked me where I got it. Told her I found it a while back. She told me it was a Hamilton watch and they were really nice watches. Even back then I liked watches, but I didn't like this one. It was a dressy watch with roman numerals and a date, and it was in practically new condition. It had a silver colored case, Mom said it was 'white gold'. I didn't know what that was, but I knew I didn't like it. I hung onto it because I found it, and I stuck it in a drawer and forgot about it.

A couple years later I was cleaning out that drawer and re-discovered the watch. Again, I showed it to Mom and she told me what a nice watch it was. Thinking myself much more mature now at the ripe old age of 12...I still didn't like that dang watch! But, I found it, it was a gift from heaven I thought, so I stuck it back in the drawer I'd just cleaned out.

About a year later we were moving to another state and it was time to pack. I found that Hamilton watch in the same drawer it had been in. And you know what? After all this time, I just really didn't like that watch. We were having a garage sale that next weekend; time to get rid of the "junk". I didn't show it to Mom again when I found it this time, I knew she'd say the same thing and I'd feel all guilty again. So I just stuck a price tag on it. A quarter seemed fair...twenty five cents.

The lady made a big deal out of that silly watch, her and her cohort were whispering to each other. I distinctly thought I heard "should we tell them???" in a whisper. There were a lot of people milling around; I didn't pay much attention to the two ladies really. Later, while cleaning up, I noticed someone had bought that old watch. I guessed it must have been that lady who was looking at it and whispering to her friend. I was just glad it sold.

I saw a watch just like it the other day. It was in a heck of a lot worse condition than the one I had, and the price was several hundred dollars. "Solid white gold" the guy said, "you don't see many like this one anymore". It was the exact same model of watch, I remember.

Dumb kid, and to think I sold it for just a quarter. But ya know somethin'; as much as I was kicking myself for not sticking that watch back in the drawer for another 40 years...I still didn't really like that watch very much!

The two watches I'm wearing the most are a Traser P660 or a Seiko Sportura.

I dunno man, that is a nice looking Flieger right there! I would look for a vintage ammo pouch strap for that one over a nato. Just my .02!

    Anymore it seems to go:
    See picture
    "Nice watch"
    See avatar
"Oh, that guy. This one's going to be expensive."
    Google
    "Yup."

But that is one nice looking watch for (in this category) a reasonable-to-low price.
