A lot of thought goes into this one, and I know it will change. I made a decision 3-4 years ago to try to assemble a back up go to kit to address the unforeseen. An impossible task, but being a fan of Don Quixote an impossible dream worthy of pursuit. I purchased a maxpedition fatty organizer and began to fill each of the elastic bands.
My first lesson learned was, never try to fill the organizer, find a case to hold what you need to carry.

Found I enjoy making my own items by adapting other things. These were two 4mm bit screwdrivers from the dollar store. Fitted the top of each to 3/8” id aluminum tube and made the leather case to hold them.

Because I wanted general purpose tools I decided to adapt this “turnigy” mini bit driver to use 1/4” hex bits. The assorted bits fit inside the handle.

Where one is good “3” seem appropriate. Fire starting options include bic mini lighter, tylenol tube friction matches and a mini magnesium/ferro bar combination.

Like to have “gaffer” tape with me but like to keep it neat so I turned a mini holder on the lathe from 3/4” aluminum. Did the same for a supply of electrical tape.

Was glad to find these tekton end nippers available. I have a leatherman wave in my kit but the cutters are not at the best location for clipping wires or zip ties. These fit the bill

Put this to use today. Out camping in the RV and my wife said she wanted a couple of hooks hung. Worked well to drive the screws but I discovered the cap comes unscrewed too easily during use. Modification to come.

I have wanted a small pic/awl for my kit for a while. Got around to making it. It started as a pic/ o ring tool from harbor freight. Removed one end and added the cap. Made the brass sleeve to keep it safe when nit in use. The penny is just there for scale reference. Would be handy to have in my kit, but I live in California, and not sure I want to push the law regarding illegal fixed blade.

If it was in a recognizable tool kit (meaning with another screwdriver, wrench, that sort of thing) in a day bag or whatever would it pass muster? I mean you could go to any hardware store and get an old fashioned wood bulbous handled awl and put it in a tool kit and one would think you wouldn't be hassled by a LEO in that case... just wondering.

Hoping that it being in a tool kit will help any LEO recognize it for what it is. A tool.

In California, the following are illegal: (1) Any concealed possession of any “dirk” or “dagger,” i.e., any stabbing device with a fixed blade, regardless of length.

Yeah, even here in Virginia concealed carry of most fixed blades -- actually I think 'all' is not legal, IIRC.

Weird transition. Received an ipad which I have zero experience on. Moving from my phone and win 10 to a different way of doing things. Never too old to learn.
Positive side, spent the day at the range shooting clay. With a good friend.
