There will be more of them very soon.
That's great to hear, thanks much!
(waits in line for more VC pens to arrive :-X)
Two questions, while I'm waiting:
1. Who supplies the tiny space-pen refills? Are they something that will go away if the VC pen ever goes out of production?
2. What are these screw-closed cable keychains that I should be avoiding, and where are the twist-closed cable keychains I should be buying instead?
1. I met Rothandir at SHOT and he confirmed that this a Fisher cartridge. Don't know the full details but there are lots of them.
2. I have heard of the new twist (more secure) cable key rings but I'm not sure who sells them. Anyone got more info?
This is an official Fisher "zip pen" cartridge. A lot of them were made for a small company that disappeared and there should be no worries about ever running out as there are still tons in inventory. Even still, if you find you use your VC pen a lot you may wish to stock up.
This Twisy is the one I use, it is not coated in plastic. If you Google "Twisty Keyring" you will find coated options.
I have 5 spares now. I don't use it a lot, but seeing how Fisher pen refills tend to leak a tiny bit at the edges, who knows how long they'll last even in storage.
Good to know they're the real deal, that makes it more likely they'll be around for a while.
While I dig the design of this pen, I'm far too fond of my Titanium Inka. At only .45oz, its about twice the VC pen, but I can use it as a full size pen when I need to. That makes a big difference to me
This was exactly what I was about to ask...I wasnt sure as the sentence in 1st post mentioned "unmodified CUSTOM cartridge"
So I assumed it was still a CUSTOMized cartridge
Gonna order one in Jon's shop now!
Yes, it's a little confusing.
The cartridges themselves are custom from Fisher, and are not available anywhere else, but in the first batch of pens (what I consider "pre-production" pens, sold before 1/1/2010) they were further modified by trimming the back end.
This is because the very first pens did not use the Fisher cartridge, and in order for the Fisher cartridge to fit inside, the refill needed to be turned down. The latest batch of pens (and all pens from here on out) are designed to accept the unmodified custom Fisher cartridges.
Rothrandir, please would you consider crafting a shell, same as your current ones physically and mechanically, but can fit the regular Fisher Bullet Pen refill? Ti even? Absolutely no complaints about your older Ti and current SS pens as I have and carry both. (Ti in wallet and SS on keyring). I just want another! (Hubba hubba)
What's that small item second from the top left (looks like it has dots/holes in it)? Another pen? ..and the item next to the key - a whistle?
I hope Dizos won't mind if I answer for him, but he seems to be offline right now. IIRC the perforated metal thing is a tritium vial holder, and the thing next to the key is indeed a whistle. If I'm not mistaken, both are made of titanium. That's all I know, Dizos can tell you further details.
Thanks. Know where the titanium whistle can be purchased? I'm not sure if I'll get one but it's something I'll put on my "maybe" list.
And I hope Dizos dont mind me answering for him as well :lolhammer:
The Whistle is an Atwood, and are discontinued unfortunatly :/
there is one guy who is selling ultra rare genuine Atwood wistles on This site
sometimes a whiste shows up on Ebay.....
If thats to expensive, here is a link with 2 other Ti whistles, click HERE
(I ordered the Versati one myself, and am awaiting it's arrival)
Hope this helps you further...
Buy more Pens ;D
When will you get the TI versions back in stock?
This is only a guess on my part but in one or two weeks.
Sorry I missed this. Yep as Carrot said that item is a tritium marker in a titanium tube. These were made several years back by the CPF member reefphilic. There is another member there named B@rt who I believe is currently selling similar ones. The other item is a whistle, but not an Atwood as Enkidu thought but one by an EDCF member wykeite who unfortunately doesn't come around much anymore. He stopped making these when is day job picked up, I hope to see him offering more stuff in the future. My wife scored that one for me for a birthday present.
We're looking at about 4-6 weeks for the Titanium pens. I wish we could get them sooner, but we can't...
