I've tried a bunch of times to just log in (after getting approved and everything) but the site has never worked for me.

For instance, today I'm getting database errors.

It's always been slow and broken for me.

Just to offer a counterexample, I registered at USN a few months ago. Was in within two days, no questions asked. I got the message that they don't like web-based email, so I registered using my work email from my employer's domain. Got approved a day or so later, and that was that.

As for the forum itself, it's cool enough, but maybe a little overhyped. I've read it periodically for a couple months now, and I'm not totally getting what the big deal is. I guess it's great for people who are really into Strider or Tadgear or one of the other manufacturers with their own area there, but in a more general sense I find this place way more useful. Your mileage may vary, natch.

I got through the initial registration without a problem, noticing the message that a confirmation e-mail was sent. However, I have not received that e-mail yet. How long is it supposed to take? :help: It is something like a minimum of 24 hours? Seems like people have had different waiting periods across the span of this thread... just curious what the "latest" wait time is.

All membership registrations are reviewed by an actual human being, so the timing varies based on how busy things are at the ranch.

you all know it costs roughly $10 a year for a your own email and domain right? You can get bob@bobsmith.com for less than you spend on coffee in a month....

I really like the attitude here! A lot of people would worry about competing forums, but when your forum is the best who cares!

I've been a Cove member of USN for about a year now. I love that place. They do require a non-free email address, but luckily, I had an EDU one. A domain for work would work too. It's a simple screening procedure, and fair enough, IMO. But it's not a place for people who aren't totally crazy for Striders or Emersons.

I just wanted to look around but you have to sign up so I did. I won't be going back. All I saw were a bunch of toffs and elitists. IMO EDCF is the only Forum that matters.

My knives aren't expensive enough for me to fit in over there, but I do read from time to time.

That's one of the reasons why it wasn't a fit for me, either.

USN prompted me to look into makers and items that would have otherwise been unknown to me. While much of what is there can be quite spendy, it has also shown me another level of EDC that is available.

Agreed. I've learned a ton from USN, just don't have a lot to contribute.

I'm coming up on my 5 year USNiversary, it's a great forum and really doesn't "compete" with EDCF, both are great for what they are. Beware though, USN will drain your pocketbook faster than anything. :) I avoid the cove these days.
