I've been carrying the Evade 1.0 for over 2 years now. It's been perfect for my EDC needs. I honestly couldn't imagine any improvements that would justify a new pack for me. But dang! After seeing photos of the 2.0, I'm second guessing myself. I've never considered the usefulness of a beaver tail, but can see it now. Also, as good as the organization is with the 1.0, the options with the 2.0 take it to a whole new level. I'm impressed. Congratulations guys...I'm envious! Great work as usual Helm.
As many of the same attachment points appear to be present, I'd wonder it if you could use the BT on the EV1. The height is in the main compartment, not so much the admin area correct? If so the sizing would be fine and it would just be a matter of the top compression straps (can't remember if the EV1 had removable straps), even if not simple strap management could do the trick.
Good point. I could probably rig it to work, although I would have problems with the color match. I have the older gray version that @BTG108 referred to in an earlier post as being similar to what GoRuck calls "steel". I love the color, but haven't found anything else to match it. Besides, I'm really liking the looks of the 2.0 in Black Diamond Ripstop.
Ya wondered that too... Ev1 top compression srb's are fixed. Also the EV2 split-bar (removable) srb's use an updated Woo Jin internal design which is not compatible with the EV1 srb's. Could permanently remove the EV1 srb's and use the new style. However, I'm not sure I'd take the hardware off the Ev1 just yet. I'm telling you this stuff is like tactical legos for grown ups. Lol
Just got “delivery” straight from Helm! What a great guy! And what a pack; it’s fantastic. https://imgur.com/gallery/MmbNk4X
@Happygodavid - very nice! The wife and I just returned back to Northern California from our Holiday travels in the Midwest (MO, IN, and IL). My EV2/PALS/Beavertail is "out for delivery," @HELM timed it just right to get it here on the day of my arrival....now just hoping the USPS is able to complete their end of the deal.
That's quite a trip Race... welcome back! I think most of us knew what we were in for, but there's nothing that compares with having an EV2 in your hands. Alpha 19 delivered on all points. It's an incredible pack. It's an excellent example of @HELM 's "dogged determination not to suck." https://theperfectpack.com/2018/12/20/alpha-one-niner-evade-2-0-qa/ An interesting interview with Helm over at TPP.
@RED-FIVE - thanks! happy to be back. not so happy to go back to work on monday. my family is all in the midwest, work and wife's family is here in Northern California. It was our annual cross country visit for the holidays. Thank you for the link! Well worth a quick read for those who are interested.
looks like all the EV2's on the sale page are now officially sold out! That was fast...it's a good thing it did before i made a mistake and ordered another one
Very good read. Looking forward to seeing formal reviews of the pack if they come (given the LE run).
USPS came right as the wife and I were headed out to her parents. Hopefully, Saturday (or Sunday), I will get a chance to get a more in-depth review of the EV2/PALS/BVT.
Yes!! BNB (Ballistic Nylon Beast) with all the trimmings...Enjoy! I'm sure thinking about it while driving kept you alert and awake. Mmmm
Yes, I went with the BNB 1050D to have that Tumi type look (previously mentioned in this thread or the other EV2 thread). Its nice to have something that is useful wiht plenty of pockets and EDC-like abilities, while still being "under the radar" for business type travel and office carry. After simply unzipping the pockets and exploring, I discovered that the laptop/tablet pocket will be great. When traveling, I commonly carry my work laptop, a personal tablet and sometimes carry a personal laptop or wife's ipad. That pocket would have come in handy in this past trip due to carrying the work laptop and personal tablet. I can already see the usefulness in that pocket already.
Found a lot of use in throwing the wallet and key fob in the CCW pocket without concern of sticky fingers finding them ... Thinking of picking up a SERT/A19 v-kit to keep them accessible from either side while holding them in place (vs being loose in the pocket). Anyone tried the kit for something similar? Thoughts?
That's a great idea, in fact for holding other things too... I'm thinking it would be nice in the front organizer pocket to install the Type 1 admin panel slightly over to one side of the velcro field. Then use one of the V-kit single elastic holders for a Fenix, could mount in the small space next to the panel. There was a pic of this arrangement on the ev2 product page of a Multicam set up like this.
i put my type 1 to the corner and a bit below so I can put the old msm loop and/or 5.11 light write patch depending on what i carry. Works great for me though.
