    allen edmonds, find the last that fits your feet best, and you are done...for life.

    i have owned alden, ballys, church, paul smith, and a few other high end brands. Allen Edmonds have very soft long lasting leather.

    I have 7 pairs by my door right now.

    If you don't mind investing a little more upfront for a pair that will last the rest of your life, or that can be repaired by the original maker when/if they ever need it, look at what Russell Moccasin has to offer.

    I own 3 pairs of Aldens ... 1ea Black Wing Tip & 2 Brown Dress Boots. the boots right off were like wearing slippers ...the shoes needed some help from the Shoe Cobbler to stretch some sore points. I have worn them to a wedding and a 5 day convention...all three pair are all well, wonderful.

    All of the above plus having more than one pair to switch them out every day. Giving your shoes time to recover and regain its shape will ensure a longer lasting, more comfortable wears. I’m in training for marathon runs. By rotating between 3 pairs of shoes I can make them last a lot longer. I no longer have to throw away shoes when the cushions give out before the soles get worn up.

    After having worn dress shoes for 10 years in NYC and putting literally miles on them day after day, my top two favorites are:

    * Cole Hahn wingtips
    * Ferragamo loafers
    * Mephisto loafers

    The key is getting quality shoes and then getting them resoled as needed. Extremely more cost effective over the long run.

    Buy once, cry once.

    I hate dress shoes because they are not overly comfortable and I like something with a nice grippy tread. I’ll start checking out some of these brands. I have tried Nunn and Bush but they didn’t seem to last very long and Rockports can be hit or miss in my opinion. Some times you get a winner and sometimes you don’t when you buy Rockport. I tend to like a boot over a traditional dress shoe so that also presents a challenge.

    I have to agree with Jdjernigan. While do not hate dress shoes, I have wasted hundreds of dollars on shoes I wear a few times and then are relegated to the closet.

    Keen Parker's are my current dress shoe. The black version holds a good shine and is comfortable all day.
    Keen markets them as utility shoes. However I have found they are acceptable in the corporate and Government secotors.

    I see them in US shoe stores. I haven’t tried them all but at least some aren’t big enough for the thickness (sole to top of foot) of my feet.

    I have high arches too and don't have trouble. How you lace the shoe can make a difference.

    Lems makes a dressy shoe in brown or black leather. Light, barefoot style, thin flexible sole of grippy rubber, zero drop, wide forefoot. Might need to check out pics to see if they are dressy enough for your particular office. Very comfortable though, and athletic enough to run in.
