A few months ago I was looking for a Kiridashi and came across a carbon fiber model, so I thought it would be cool to have one in G10, so I used my Google Fu. As it turns out there is literally no one doing it...except for TW Brands Gear, so I ordered one, a Covert Defender.

I decided I wanted another so I sold some paracord and low and behold I had enough for two more. :) I called Travis and asked if he would make me - Covert Defender in Ghost Jade G10, and a Pocket Razorback Defender in B&W and he said sure.

What makes G10 knives special? Well G10 is made from thin layers of woven fiberglass and a super hard epoxy (often colored except). What results is an extremely hard and durable laminate. It won't rust, water proof, it won't rot, it is non metallic (detectable), and easy to maintain. It also happens to look great.

Travis uses G10 with more layers thicknesses of 3/16 - 1/4" thick for more durability, then he hand grinds each blade himself and the quality speaks for itself. They come in a lot of colors too. He makes a kydex taco sheath for them that can be hung from the neck by a piece of paracord or slipped in a pocket for discrete carry.

Oh yeah, you can also get them in Carbon Fiber.

These are easily maintained, if the G10 ever needs brightening just wipe down with some mineral oil. If they need sharpening just use an emery board, yep just like you would use for your nails.

Here's a size difference so you can see the difference in size between the Covert Defender (larger) and the Razorback Pocket Defender.

Here's the Ghost Jade one I special ordered and I am so proud of.

I also have one of his wallets and a Ghost Jade lanyard bead.

I really like these blades, I will put one in my pack and the other two will cycle with my other EDC gear. He has some other great designs and although I will hold off ordering another one for a while, it won't be easy and not because I want too. :D

BTW, I'm in no way affiliated with or trying to push his stuff, I like it and thought you would as well, that's all!

You need one to ride shotgun to your G43 in your EDC bag. They are very reasonably priced IMO.

When I looked at them, I was between the pocket defender and the minnow. I purchased and am waiting on the minnow. If I like it, I'll probably get another. I was hoping for one with a 2.5", I might have to see if they'll do a custom and if so the cost.

Jade G10 vs black carbon fiber. Honestly I'm perfectly content with G10

Pretty dang sharp! You can refine the edge with an emery board for touch ups. It's an alternative blade, it's not made for whittling, but ut can cut and is an excellent SD tool for sure.

Bluesboy, I took my sheath and cut it off about 3/16" in front of the tip, then drilled a 5/16" hole in the center. I took some sand paper and smoothed it out, to get rid of the sanding marks I flashed it with a lighter, but don't heat it up too much.

    After modifying:

It made it shorter by 3/4" and the new hole still balances fine. Much better for my pocket.

The Minnow looks good. I bet the Minnow (4.5") or especially the Tag (4") would be great on a keychain.
