I'm a bit late to the party, but...

DO NOT BRING YOUR HANDGUN INTO NEW YORK!!

You can not possess a handgun in the state of NY without an appropriate permit to own. This is a FELONY and if caught, you will fry. The only exception to this is if you are simply passing through in accordance with FOPA rules. Stopping at a casino is most certainly NOT within FOPA restrictions and is absolutely illegal, no question. This whole thread is full of terrible information.

Thought I'd update you guys on how the trip went thanks to the info I received.

Casino: Killed me and the girlfriend...the payout on most of the machines there was good...we just couldn't find the sweet spot.

The Jeff Dunham Comedy Show: We had amazing seats, it was hilarious...I don't think I stopped laughing. The food was good at their buffet as well.

NY Gun Laws: Suck, and probably always will suck. I hated stopping before the state line and "NewYorking" my gun to fit their laws.

Olean and Salamanca NY, Bradford PA: We had a lot of fun...its been a while since ive been up that way. Went to the case knives/zippo factory, the Ka-Bar factory/museum, some big sports stores, the Allegheny National Forest...it was a busy weekend.

Now I'll show off the toys I bought :) (Please excuse the background of the crappy hotel linens!!)

Its hard to go to Olean without picking up an authentic Ka-Bar made right there in town, so here it is. All sexy wrapped in its leather. Then here are two other ka-bar products...one of their smaller zombie knives, and a folding Ka-Bar Gila. Lastly...topping it off is a S&W parang that we picked up
from a sports store. I LOVE this thing.

Oh, and I had to get the Ka-Bar zombie shirt...even though i'm not into the whole zombie thing. it was a cool shirt ;)

I'm not saying this is wrong, but is this legit? Can anyone back this up? I read otherwise before I left for NY Friday.

depends on what county you live in...wyoming doesn't require any class...just apply, and pay for fingerprinting.

Sorry, just noticing this now, but yes, it's legit. I assure you I'm correct. As a life long resident of NJ and with cousins who own farm land in NY where I go to shoot rifles, I assure you, bringing a handgun into the STATE of New York (and NYC as well, obviously) is absolutely, 100%, no question about it, a full on felony. The ONLY exception to this are if you are only passing through and making no stops (in accordance with FOPA).

For verification, see the "Transporting Firearms Through New York" Section on Page 4: http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/newyork.pdf

Looks like you broke the law but got away with it, consider yourself lucky. And nice KaBar!

Even stopping at gas stations and to eat is risky when traveling with a firearm...daaaaaaaaaaaaaaang.

Yeah. Our "America" and your America wind up being slightly different. I'm in the midst of planning a move to either VA or CO before the end of the year (depending on which job I take) and looking forward to it. Although the State legislature just took a big steamy dump on CO....

Colorado is getting as bad as NY very quickly...even though there's some laws left there, I don't foresee them lasting too long the way the legislators are working. The new laws just weren't enough for them.

I won't live in a state that strips me of my rights. Its obviously hard enough traveling to one.
