Hey Darcy! Just curious, and I haven't looked on the website admittedly, but do you have any kind of "Keepers" for the extra strap ends? I've just used two sided velcro roll, but I would rather something more finished looking... Notice the shoulder strap end on the right?
A sewn 1" elastic at the end of the strap would work wonders for strap keeping. (One would have to stack the excess strap in a Z pattern instead of rolling it.)
Nah, no real time difference between those two colors. At this point, how quickly your order ships depends on how quickly you place it... backorders are shipped first come, first serve, and I expect most to ship next week. That said, if you need to receive it by a specific date (say, before you leave for a trip), put that in the comments box during the checkout process and we'll do everything we can to make that happen. You are very welcome and feel free to post any further questions you have!
Thank you Darcy. I thought that's what you would say but I figured it couldn't hurt asking anyway. I'll be waiting patiently (well, maybe not) for the larger Synapse to arrive as that is the bag I want!
I've had a pack that had a perpendicular strip sewn to the end of the straps...whatever you had extra would just get rolled up and the the velcro strip folded around it. Basically the same thing I did there, though I didn't want to sew that on.
Good deal. I'd like top hear your thoughts after you use it a bit if you don't mind. I'm on the fence between 3 bags. I keep coming back to the Smart Alec.
We're thinking of offering this part for that very purpose. Thoughts? We are disinclined to permanently attach hook and loop or elastic to the exterior of our bags in most cases: neither are as durable as the other exterior components.
I would be glad to share my opinion on it. I will be primarily using for travel, so for the time being, I will only be able to comment on the build quality. TARFU will probably prove to be more helpful regarding its use in an EDC role.
OK, got some answers for you: Tom doesn't have plans to make a Ristretto without an integrated Cache at this point. Longer shoulder strap option: we're considering this and it will very likely happen in the next 3-4 months.
These would be better. They slide up and down easier when you adjust the length of the straps and they are not permanent (can be easily replaced). Web Dominators are better when you want to bind up loose excess strap and then leave it alone. I installed some on the Smart Alec shoulder straps. I'll take a pic and post it here tomorrow.
You know, I really haven't looked at a Tom Bihn bag in many years - since I ordered an early gen Timbuktu ... this would be, gads, somewhere around turn of the century-ish. Thanks to this forum, I've been looking at the Tom Bihn website, catalog and blog. And while I'm not really looking for a new bag at the moment, and I've been "tactically" inclined lately ... Wow! Those are just great bags and options. Definitely on my list for future bags and accessories. I thought the catalog exceptionally well done in design and information, btw. Likewise the blog. I found it very easy to loose time browsing back and forth. I'd sure like a Tom Bihn bag in the future Great stuff!
I like these! They are removable, but can be affixed well enough that there is no way they will come off and get lost. I would be worried about the little elastic webbing slipping off. I like these also because they can be adjusted without removing them from the strap. You've got my vote Darcy!! WANT!!
I was going to suggest those!!! I have them on my airsoft RRV vest (long straps) and they work awesome.
Web dominators work, but I've had some come off. I guess I packed a lot of excess under them (I'm small and have to cinch down quite a ways. I've taken to installing a slide (strap adjuster) to deal with the excess. Works well, very adjustable. Only wish it came as standard.
The Web Dominators that I have seen are designed for 1" webbing. I thought hte straps on the bags were wider than that. As for them falling off, you merely have to attach them correctly. (The plastic bit goes under the web, with the elastic over it, enclosing the web.)
Spent some time on TB website for the first time. I do need a new laptop bag & it looks like I have found my new source Now to just recover from a big Christmas for the family, and then conveniently break my current bag.
Well, looks like I lied ... there is a bag I've been looking for, and Tom Bihn makes it: the Citizen Canine. I've gone through a couple lousy leash attachments / bag holders, and been disappointed with all of them. I was looking around locally for a fanny pack or waist pouch to use as dedicated dog walking gear - I walk my dog a lot, and usually quite early and late (dark). Gathering stuff can be the ... "Doh! Forgot a bag!" I'll be getting me a Citizen Canine. In kiwi, I think, and with a light.
On my Synapse, I use the black fabric covered elastic bands that women use to tie back their ponytails, to tie off folded strap ends. I buy them by the bunch, in CVS or any other such seller, for a few dollars, for 20-40, depending on thickness. I carry a few extra doubled over on the plastic shoulder strap slides and on the waist belt's strap ends, to keep them from drooping. I also had my local shoe repair shop sew two Fastex lash patches ( from Campmor) on the bottom of the bag. I use two 24" lengths of gutted 550 cord , with cord locks, to tie on a fleece, etc. They store in the pockets when not in use. I can also fasten a 9" x 6" nylon zipped bag that nests in the main pack pocket, storing loose EDC gear, to the bottom patches. Thus, adding ~100cu.in.to my carrying capacity, should I so require.
