I'm looking for a "book" style (zipper all around, like the "Neath freak" but much smaller and flatter) organizer for several small things in my bag. (tweezers, small pliers, some FAK stuff, small lighter, a pen.. all those small things that find their way to the bottom of your bag unless properly organized.)

Size somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 inch by 5 inch when closed. Smaller could so too.

I'm totally new to this type of thing so I thought I'd ask you guys for some advice before I start searching without having a clue as to where to start searching

    What about these?

    http://www.countycomm.com/POCKETORGANIZER.htm

I've got 2 of them and they're pretty good. Quality isn't great but it's cheap so what the heck.
I've bought them on a groupbuy a good while ago, since they don't ship outside the USA

    Here's another possibility:

Start with the Mil-Spec Monkey Patch Pouch and add some MSM Loop Panels.

Also, have you considered using a pouch to organize these things. The S.O.B. Logistics Pouch is a fantastic organizer.

One more good option is the TAD Gear OP 1.

Oh thanks, so many ideas... suddenly had to switch to a larger backpack this morning  and hell on Earth  , I ended up pouring stuff from one into another - no time to sort and sift through it all. Definitely got to find something like those.

I got to measuring where exactly I want to stuff this organizer in my backpack. The pocket is 12 by 17 cm. (That is something like 4,7 by 6,7 inch)

So far I think all the options above are just a bit to big.....

FWIW: As mentioned in another thread, Quartermasters has a 4" x 6" version of the organizer shown. I'd link to the page, but their site is being redone and there are currently no photos. I've got one one order but haven't received it yet, so I can't verify the dimensions.

Still might be too big for you.

I picked one up because I think it will fit in your average sport jacket inside chest pocket (dunno', I'll just have to try it).

When ever yours comes in I hope you post a review. I'd love a smaller one like that but I'm concerned about it's build quality.

Love the loop panels but they've been unavailable for a while, with no indication that that will change

Yep, that's the guy. Not particularly useful link as there are no photos currently (not that the photos were all that accurate, anyhoo).
