In some drawer around here, I have a 15 year old Seiko Kinetic and I have the same complaint. Seiko doesn't call it a battery, it's a "capacitor". It still has to be replaced periodically, and it costs much more than a battery.

Except for that one blatant lie, Citizen is actually a very good watch company. Both in terms of customer service and quality timepieces that aren't overpriced.

The only Citizen watches that actually don't need a battery are their mechanical models that come with their Miyota movement inside. But if it says "Eco-Drive," then it needs a battery. And Citizen puts a rechargeable solar cell battery into each and every one before shipping out the watches to their Authorized Dealers.

I have an eco drive from around 2001 and it runs fine. These type of batteries lose about 15% of their storage capacity after twenty years. Yes, they slowly wear out, but the battery should outlive me. The battery is a type of Lithium–titanate battery. These batteries, in small applications, (like watches) are very efficient and for all practical purposes should last for decades.

I suppose there are cases where these batteries fail, but not because they reached normal service EOL- but rather a malfunction. I think Citizen should advertise them as able to last longer than an adult rather than lifetime ;)
    That's still a long time.

As for a nice titanium watch do a search on Citizen BL5250. The leather strapped version is about 220 bucks from ebay or amazon. It's an older model. I've had one since 2003. If you are lucky enough to find a bl5250-51L, it has matching titanium bracelet with a sapphire crystal instead of mineral crystal. I bought one of these recently to replace my previous one that went overboard at work. There's a vendor selling this version on ebay for 319. They retailed for well over 500.

Seiko SBDC007 or 009. Seiya usually has one or both on his site.

Extremely light and comfortable, though. The stainless version, which I also own, is a MONSTER

Yes, titanium has a tendency to do that :). However, I still can't get past the fact that it's almost 2 cm thick.

The amazing thing is this is a 15 yr old watch, and still no scratches on the crystal. Some minor scratches on case, but that shows fine wear & tear!

I wear an old CountyComm Marathon Quartz Dive watch with a steel band (the one with the USA State Seal on the clasp).
Its got 12 tritium vials (11 green, 1 yellow) for the number hands.

I have a Ti Citizen EcoDrive my wife got me about 7-8 years ago. The metal does show signs of scratching and a ding here or there. I also have a Ti wedding ring and it shows a lot of scratching. On my ring, I like it. As others have said, it gives character. On my watch, I am not as thrilled with it. I am looking for a new watch because of the wear this one has and this is my dress watch.

True story. It's apparently really difficult to scratch polished titanium or Citizen uses magic.

Must be magic. My Ti Citizen isn't polished to a mirror shine. :)

CitiZen uses a finish called Duratect on their Titanium watches these days. Works so well it's used on all the other SS watches. Two of my Citizens have this finish.
