I prefer tip-up. It's easier to get a good grip on the knife faster. Honestly, you could do either. There's not really that big a difference.

    tip-down, IWB.
I sometimes carry tip-up knives too (Spyderco Caly III), but given the choice, they would be tip-down.

I like the tip up but have knives where the tip is down and no way to reverse the clip. I carry a Chive and Scallion frequently so I got used to tip down.

I prefer tip up, less chance of outside debris getting in the pivot

Tip down if it's configured that way. My EDC is a Benchmade 530, just draw and flick! Just seems more natural and a lot faster.

Tip down... I have never understood tip up. It seems slower and more dangerous.

I guess if I carried clipped outside of a pocket (on belt, etc), it wouldn't matter.

Tip-up always; it's a much faster draw for me.

If the blade doesn't lock tight enough in tip up, I quit using it.

    Tip Up

It has nothing to do with draw speed. I just think the clip gets in the way of using the knife less when it's mounted for tip up carry. My EDC is a Caly3 or a UKPK.

I wouldn't carry a folder tip up unless i trusted the blade retention system, though. That being said, I have a Para with a tip-up wire clip and I have never had a problem with it.

I have found that my knife pivots get more fouled during tip up carry versus tip down. I guess I have more pocket lint than external debris near my pockets. Regardless, I still prefer tip up for most knives so that the blade is secured against my pocket seam so that it cannot accidentally open. As mentioned before, I carry my kershaw blur tip down due to snagging problems with the thumb studs.

Tip up and on the left side (knife against seem) when I carry it. Not that I am left handed, but I like the clip on that side and I am not allways carrying a knife.

My phone and wallet are in the right pocket, and I do not want to damage the phone (Nokia 5800 -> touch) ;).

Hi, I like tip down especially whit flip or wave opening, in my opinion is safer, faster, and you can bring up the knife in a more natural way. But really is a personal comfort choice I think...

I perfer tip-up carry, but I also have a Spyderco Para-Military that I carry tip-down and it's one of my favorite knives. Tip-up just seems a little more natural to me and the clip doesn't dig into your hands as much.
