I recomend sanding the surface of the leather with very fine sandpaper 1200 or 1500 grit, to make easy the compound loads into it. Its a matter of testing how well it takes the compound.

Excelent work there, nice idea on the support of the stropp :)

    Greetings from Argentina

Cool thanks, I checked HomeDepot but they had nothing finer than 400 grit. Any idea on where I can find some? I checked a local HobbyLobby, too, andthey didn't have anything fine either:(

Thanks...My Dad had his like that when he taught me to use a stone. My only stone doesn't have a box so I never got around to doing that. This made me happy:) My Dads the man.

I did some leather work myself today, but mine required stitching, my thumbs are killing me from pushing the needles and pulling the string, I made a money/card/ID holder, kinda like the one from saddleback, sorry no pics. Right now I have it drying and stretched out. JR

I guess it would, I just hook up the dremel with a very small bit and zip holes. Pretty quick too, still doesn't help having to push and pull the needle threw! JR

WRT to pushing the needle through the leather, this or one of these. Pulling should be easier once the needle is most of the way through.

I was thinking, at one point, to get the sewing palm. But I don't do much leather work, I like stumbling on things, so if I find a deal walking around then I might pick something up. But till then I guess I'll just deal with the pain every once and a while. JR

I went to the local Tandy Leather and bought a nice piece of leather for $15, and some proper glue. It was about 11"x12" but sorta oblong. I went to Home Depot and picked up a 1"x4"x8" and got started. I used my years of math training to devine how many times 4 goes into 12, cut myself three boards 11" long, and made myself 3 strops 4" wide by 11" long. And I thought I'd never use math after high school;)

    Just a question....
    Do you have magical wood?
How did you get (3) 11" boards from the original 8" board?
    Must be Hogwarts High School

    hahahahahaha

Haha. I got THREE boards (4" wide) for a 12" wide piece of leather.

The leather was only 11" long so I only made the boards 11" long.

I knew somebody would ask me about that;)

I meant that the board was 8 ft long, but I got carried away shift keying up on the button so many times when talking about inches:)

I can only post pics through Tapatalk, so I'm just putting these pics here so I don't have to use Tapatalk's inferior searching to locate the threads I want to move these to.[IMG]

    Very snazzy!

Imagine how different Star Wars could have been if R2 really had a knife attachment...
