The regular version comes with only 3 grades of belt, so aftermarket ones are needed to bridge the gaps.

Plus I have found I can get twice as many aftermarket belts for the price of the WS ones. The KO edition would probably be less expensive as well but not for sure.

Once upon a time I did that...and it ended up putting a very important video update sideways. I was joked on for months...had to have @gibbsrule9 fix it for me :p

just be careful and practice. I've seen so many people jack up real nice knives..myself included. Don't pull the blade all the way through the belt. Stop about half way on the tip. I use mine for polishing.

I'm going to try mine on some cheap folders this weekend, once I have the technique down I will sharpen my wife's kitchen knives.

My Dad got my BiL and I one, not knowing that I already had one. CSM-101 has a good memory...I like mine. :)

Ha! I "got my technique down" using the cheapo steak knives and then moved on :)

By the way, Tidycat, its pretty easy to get the hang of...and the first time you pull the tip too far accross the belt you'll have taught yourself why Mumbojumboo said not to do that :D

Personally, I don't switch hands very well, so I litterally turn the entire WorkSharp to do the left side of the blade with my right hand :D

Nah, they had the reciept and just said they'd return it for me...gave me cash instead :)
I could tell Dad was a little disappointed since they try to find an actual gift to give instead of just money. I didn't have the heart to mention that I have the Onion version too. (He had used his military discount at Cabeles and gotten "a great deal" on the basic Work Sharp) I just agreed with him and told my BiL how cool it is and how easy to use. Basically just a mini belt sander :)
