I took this a few years ago, on the way to Cape Town from the Falkland Islands. They followed us for about 9 hours.
Oh ya!! I killed him over and over and over...then I went on the hunt for all her brothers and sisters
Found this little guy/gal at the bottom of a fence. It had been on the bottom wire but it was too hard for it to keep its balance. It was chirping every two seconds, waiting to be fed, and I figured a neighb's cat would find it sooner or later, so I caught it...but not before it made a last ditch escape effort into the cow pasture. So I climbed the fence and brought it up on the deck where I could reach a tree branch. Its been a couple of hours and it has moved to another tree, since I helped it get off the ground in the middle of a field full of high weeds. Hard to see, but its right smack in the middle of the pic. About 4" from the end of that branch I cut off a couple of weeks ago.
Hate to tell you, but given your location I'd be willing to bet there are a lot more around all the time than you think there are. Most homes in the US likely contain several at any given time.
This reminds me of the time I went to Australia and there were all sorts of poisonous spiders around the house. Lukily they were babies at the time.
Old pics but these guys (or their descendants) visit me at work regularly. Deer by Simon_Knight73, on Flickr Deer by Simon_Knight73, on Flickr

I had just fired up the grill to make some dinner when I saw that missy came running towards the house. Sounded like she had her mouth full.. And I was right. She brought some food back to the family. Nice little hunter.
