Yeah, I tend to go overboard a lot of the time. I also got the Dremel for shaping the kydex :) It seemed like a good excuse for a lot of purchases.

Something rattly arrived in a box today. Ordered 4 weeks ago. So not too bad for my neck of the woods :p
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

And included in this delivery was my first titanium stuff ever :D

Edit: BTW an old posts from some other people stating problems with the first leather coin pouch was old. This is no longer a problem. This pouch is beautifully made and coin fits snugly like I'd expect it to. Well done forum store. :D

I'm going to qualify my comments with this statement: I have never sharpened a knife before purchasing the Work Sharp.

I decided to try it on a few knives and see how it worked. My first experiments were with the CRKT Pazoda II. This knife is cheap enough that I was ok if I ruined it. My brother had sharpened it with a diamond rod by hand and it sliced paper nicely, but wasn't "shaving sharp". I ran it through the 220 a few times, then swapped out to the 6000 grit. It seemed worse when I was done. I did a lot of swapping back and forth, and it did take a while to get the hang of how to maintain the position of the knife. I was using the "Outdoor" guide for a 50 degree angle. After making it worse and worse, I decided to try a kitchen pairing knife (with the 40 degree guide).

Because the pairing knife was a little knicked, I ran it through the 80, 220, and 6000 grit belts. That came out shaving sharp with very little effort. I think that guide is a little easier to use. Then it dawned on me, maybe I should have used this guide on the Pazoda. I ran that through the same belts as the pairing knife and suddenly it sharpened up nicely!

Now with even less hair on the back of my hands/wrists, I decided to try my luck at a CRKT tanto serrated/straight blade. I was able to do ok with 220 and 6000 on the straight parts, though controlling the motion on the short straight section near the tip requires some skill. I'm terrible on the serrations. It says to only sharpen the "flat" side of the serrations in the manual, but I think this one may need some round files to get this in better shape.

Finally, I tried a SRM 710 that was pretty sharp to start with. I ran it through all 3 belts and sligtly improved it. I think with a little more time it could have gotten to shaving sharp, but I also wanted to go play with my 2-year old daughter so I'm saving another round for another day.

I think someone who knows what they are doing could get better results faster, and I'm sure with practice I'll get to really like it. If you are going to get one, get extra belts because you'll wear through one of the 2 sets just learning how to use it. Also keep in mind that the rollers do heat up as you use it, so don't expect to sharpen for hours non-stop. Using the guides can scratch up the blade sides a little as well, so if you're pretty particular about the finish, maybe look for another option.

My biggest take-away was to make sure you use the proper angle for the knife you are sharpening. If the knife is duller after using this, you are probably using the wrong guide. Also take care or you can grind the tip off.

Had a busy week this week - got in some new Oakley SI Ballistic 2.0 sunglasses, also added another lens for other Oakleys, so I'm ready for when the sun comes out. But, since it's still a bit chilly, I also added some Oakley SI Assault gloves. (First impressions thread is in reviews subforum, not in clothing…)
