A micro ferrorod and a 1/4" hex micro ratchet driver. The driver is neat, spins one direction only around it axis, with a change of direction being effected by swapping sides for the insert. It's going straight into my standard EDC toolkit pocket organiser The ferrorod, however, is a tad irritating. It IS a ferrorod, in a handy screw-together casing, but the striker just doesn't work at all. Luckily, I'm planning to carry this with my Leatherman, and having just tested the rod with that, I KNOW that the blades on that will produce sparks from the rod. The two rubber rings came with the rod assembly, as spares, which was a nice touch, but doesn't detract from the bloody appalling lack of a working striker. Also, yes, that's the letters "EDC" on the casing of the rod; it came that way in the ziplok bag that the rod assembly was supplied in (along with a cheapo and poor 10-inch length of unmarked and questionable paracord which has gone straight into the bin). Both items were sourced via Amazon here in the UK.
This: the Leatherman Tread. Back when it launched I was a spunky 15-year-old who wanted it but couldn’t drop the dough. Now that I just turned 20 I thought it was about time. I even took advantage of their engraving service. I’ve read my fair share of negative reviews, but I find them to be largely unhelpful as many people seem to think that this is a replacement for carrying a multi tool. I think it is merely intended as jewelry that could be used as a basic screwdriver set if no alternatives are present. Going into this purchase with the knowledge that I am buying it primarily for the premium feel and utilitarian style, I’m very excited for my Tread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've got one of these as well, in black; My first Leatherman product, as it happens It was bought for a holiday involving transatlantic flights (belt tool to go in checked baggage due to blades, dammit) that got postponed because my car at the time (Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5) decided to become impossible to drive (and uneconomical to repair) and had to be replaced. I still have the Tread for when I can afford to do the holiday again
Even though it sounds like it's been a while, I'm really sorry to hear about your vacation and your SUV! I'm planning to use my Tread for an excursion up to Michigan and I'll admit that I'm a bit worried about wearing the Tread, regardless of its TSA-compliant status. Supposedly it's up to an individual officer's discretion as to what gets confiscated and what doesn't, and Leatherman has stated that they don't offer replacements on TSA-confiscated gear. I'm probably being overly cautious, but $150 is a decent amount of money to lose as a college student! LOL! I hope that you'll be able to enjoy both your Tread and a wonderful trip overseas soon.
Thanks, and so was I! And I've read about the vagaries of the Twitchy Strange Arrangements ( ) as well, which was one of the reasons why I went with Leatherman Once the current unpleasantness blows over, I hope to be able to realistically reschedule my holiday over there Oh, and I now have a Mitsubishi Shogun SG-3 LWB (Pajero / Montero / Takeyerpicko ) which will hopefully last a bit longer and more reliably Have a good one yourself
When I used to travel all the time, sometimes I could plan ahead and send item(s) to where I would be staying... if you use USPS Priority Flat Rate cartons its not too costly and you can stick some bubble wrap into the box to avoid having stuff rattle around (and causing undue attention ). Just a thought... Am Yisrael Chai! Moshe ben David
Yesterday a triple insulated bottle from EcoVessel ... ... and small USB C (female) to micro USB (male) adapters for the cable of my power bank. And today an awesome Daily Customs Victorinox.
Gerber Prybrid X. I tied a gutted paracord Turk's head knot (5L4B) on the multitool after removing the cord that came on it.
Victorinox SwissCard. Had one a while back; can't find it.... now have a need/want. Am Yisrael Chai! Moshe ben David
Cheburkov "Dragon" ZDI 1016 Damascus #85/100 I waited three long months to receive this jewel from Russia, definitely worth the wait!
@TALON52: nice looking blade. Is that a 'true' Damascus steel or one of the new-breed 'Damasteel' blades? Am Yisrael Chai! Moshe ben David
