Today I received a Lander Cairn XL rechargeable smart lantern. It has a lithium battery and doubles as a 10,000 mah power bank. It is "smart" in that users can change the color and brightness of the light using a free app. This is one of the coolest products I've had my hands on lately.

Two purchases from bricks and mortar stores. A twin pack of thermoflask 40oz insulated water bottles from Costco - same as my very reliable takeya bottle. Two for £17, bargain. Also a 23l backpack from mountain warehouse for the princely sum of £19.99. Decent organisation, sits nice on my back fully loaded - better than other more expensive ones I'd tried - but I'm not convinced the zips are great. But I weighed it up against how much use it will really and truly get and thought I would try it for size.

My reliable and long-time serving Nathan water bottle is showing its age, now; the rubber inner cap element is moulting black crap inside the spout of the bottle, and won't stop, despite repeated sterilisations and cleaning. Having looked, it appears that Nathan don't supply replacement parts for this model (It's a 32oz BigShot bottle, seemingly discontinued, although current models still use the same cap design). So, safety of health being kinda important to me (I have NO idea what that black crap is), I've had to retire that bottle. Shame, but if I can't replace the rubber element, I can't use the bottle, as it's integral to it being watertight when closed.

Time, therefore, for a replacement bottle. So I went Nalgene and CapCap, those being easily available through Amazon.

Nalgene because they're available here, and well regarded, and capcap for the same reasons, as well as making the bottle easier to use and drink from.
