My control panel came in last night. It's nuts how many things you can do with this thing!

I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I'd done some fixing around the house the day before it showed up lol

Ordered something around 0500 this morning and it gave me a delivery of Monday. Bought another thing about 30 mins ago and it has delivery date of Tuesday... So apparently two day Prime shipping really means 6 days now.

I hate that when you order something from Amazon and it adds up to more than $35 you still have to make sure you get free shipping cause they try to get you for standard shipping.:furious: No I don't have Prime.

Yeah they're trying to make a quick buck by not having free shipping as the default. Fell for that once.

I've had Prime for 30 days once a year for free for the last several years. :) Every year they seem to forget I try it free for the 30 day period and cancel. I'm on my 5th or 6th try at the moment. Need to cancel tomorrow before I get charged. Hey, if they are going to keep nagging me to try it again every year, I'll take advantage of that offer every time.

I cancelled order and re-ordered it with free shipping.

I ordered this Marble's Hat Clip Combo Set, screwdriver/bottle opener/hat clip and they arrived yesterday. The set of three was less than $9 shipped, and they feel sturdy enough for their intended purpose and maybe even some light prying, and fit securely on my hat/cap, so I like 'em. :)

Flickr and imgur are good alternatives to photo hosting when Photobucket is not working or you're close to or exceeding the monthly allowed bandwidth. :)

Hints for your Baofeng radio: Look up Miklor dot com for helpful hints & tips; get an FTDI chip-equipped cable, not a Prolific chip-based cable, and use CHIRP to program the radio. But, of course, before you do all that, as you said, get your licence first ;) Good luck :)

Thanks! I got that cable, and am reading miklor.. It's still pretty complex! I haven't gotten my license yet.. But I will.. Wanted to get my radio to have an idea of what's going on.

For a cheap, analogue hand held, you can't go too far wrong with a Baofeng as a first radio, so good call. I'd seek out your local Ham club, too - they'll welcome you with open arms ("ANOTHER CONVERT! PRAISE THE STATIC!" ahem ;) ), and will be invaluable in helping you get through the licence exams; good luck, and keep us posted on how you get on :)
