    Lanyard knot (video by Stormdrane)

I like it better than a simple overhand or figure 8 for zipper pulls. IMO it looks like a turks head.

Not for nothing, but there are two very extensive threads with over 4000 combined replies on knots, lanyards, etc., already in this section. They are full of pictures links and information. If you haven't already done so it is really worth taking the time to comb through them if you're interested in learning more.

Maybe we could turn this thread into more useful knots? I usually have a length of twine or para cord on me at all times. But I realized recently that I don't remember many of the knots from boy scouting that would actually make my cordage useful. decorative knots are cool, but probably not the most practical for tying to a downed tree limb to tow it off the road lol

The Sheet Bend is one of the most useful. Better than a square. (Same thing as a Bowline and it's variants)

For binding, the Constrictor is great and very easy. (several ways to tie it.) works itself tighter, easy to loosen.

For securing a load, the Trucker's Hitch gives you a 2:1 leverage for tightening.

I use the Bottle Sling Knot for a water bottle. (Couldn't find it on the animated site.)

I'm on staff for a Boy Scout Leader training on knots, members in one of the classes have to make pretzels for the group. Each student has to tie a different knot.

I spliced some loops into 16mm poly the other day.
It's a new tow rope for the car (after I melted the last one by running it over, and getting it trapped against the road)

Best bit is, if I trash it, there is $10 or rope, and half an hour of splicing in it, I can easily make another ( in fact, I may make a spare)
