You mean like this
Yaaaahhhhh!!!! They are here!!
Along with the shears too!
I am surprised, I shouldn't be, it is stainless steel after all.
They are still a little wide (literally 1mm too wide) but these with a little work are swweweetttttttt!!
They won't close yet but they need to be milled to the right edge
The pin slot is still too tight but it was fun to try!
I need to physically alter these grips be before they go on the Commander but woo!
That is sick.
Hey Eric, got a question for ya,
would a MUT CE blade fit into a Wave frame?
LM specs list the MUT blade at 3.0", and the Wave at 2.9"
Or is the Mut blade overall scalled up, closer to a Surge blade?
I'm really liking the CE blade on my Wingman, for the first time in my life I am finding uses for a serrated edge-- but not enough to have a dedicated blade, So I'm exploring options. I could swear I remember you or someone else modding a Wave or Charge to have a CE blade, but I can't find anything like that now.
Oooh! Those are so very sweet!!!
Maybe a wider pin slot with a slight detent on the inside surface to hold the pin in place?
There is no way' the blade on the MUT is super thick, and too wide. I've never made a CE before, I prefer it all PE or SE. I am chatting with a guy over in Europe about making some drop in blades, thinner profile etc. not sure where that's going
The pin should stay there on its own, just needs to be a teeny bit wider.
I was afraid of that, that it'd be a scale up, too big.
Wish I still had the SE blade that came on it, I'd re-profile and remove half the serrations. But ironically that was the first mod I ever did when I got it; ground All the serrations off of that blade and made a PE wharncliffe out of it.
I thought of just making a blade from scratch, used to make a lot of blades, but its more work than its worth to get set up/practiced again, for just one blade.
One? It probably wouldnt be hard to find half a dozen people who want the same thing.
You get what you want and maybe some cost recovery for materials.
Take me months to get good enough again to make anything for someone else tho.
But, I found a working 'cheat'; I re-ground/shortened a Surge serrated blade, works great!
I couldn't resist the pen mod and finally got enough courage to file into a brand new titanium Charge. It took most if the day with a set of needle files, but I'm quite happy with the results.
Incredible idea, Metro!!!! Thanks!!!!
pic or it didn't happen!!!
Awwwwwwwsome! So glad I inspired you to jump into the deep end.
Did you add some liner on the side so keep the pen from sliding out?
No, since I filed the titanium by hand, the tolerance is very tight. I cut the groove at a slight tapered angle that "grabs" the pen slightly. Not enough to damage the pen, but enough friction to firmly hold it in place,
You may want to chat with Texas Tool Crafters (the ebay gold plated leatherman guys). I think they are custom making Damascus type blades for the Wave and Charge.
you guys are a bad influence!
I cut it to fit the pen, and it worked well, but in 2 years carrying a SAK with the pen, I don't remember ever using it. The way I cut it, it friction fits on the plastic tip, so the tweezers and toothpick fit perfectly too. Looked at the other thicker bolsters, plenty of room, later I'll cut them for pen and toothpick spaces to have all three.
