I guess I could but in a way it's a good thing because I won't baby it now. I may email them out of interest however.

You'll likely get a more than satisfactory response.

I'm staggered it wasn't a metal specific paint to begin with, if that is the case

Do you think I should email Cabela's or Leatherman? I hate emailing things like this, I don't wanna come across as a jerk.

I would assume it was some sort of powder coating or something rather than paint. I have been known to be wrong in the past

Just as an update I forgot to mention, I sent an email to Leatherman, will let you know of their response.

It's Cerakote, which I have no personal experience with but have heard nothing but good things about. I would have expected it to hold up better on your Leatherman than it did.

Google "Leatherman Cerakote" and you'll find the official Cerakote site describing their collaboration with Cabela's

Yep, literally just got an email that it is cerakote. Thanks for the info though. That was my initial thought but the fact that it seems to be wearing off somewhat easily led me to think otherwise as I've also heard nothing but positives about cerakote. Though Leatherman's response was that it isn't meant to last forever, I've seen lots of people hard use guns and knives with it on without any effect. No biggie, still loving the thing.

So, to be clear. They know you just received it new and their answer was that it isn't meant to last forever? No offer to resolve the issue?

I mentioned it was worn straight out of the blister pack. They said it should wear out with normal use.

Hmm yes, the tool rubbing up against all that abrasive plastic.

Do I email back or just leave it? (Cue internal debate)

That's one of the most lame excuses to deliver an half arsed job.

i hate dealing with customer service. they will give excuse after excuse until you drop off the phone, or stop emailing them. best way to deal with them is to start escalating until it gets as high as it can get to get what you want out of them.

only problem is.. this can be frustrating and big waste of your time. so it all depends on how much kick you get out of haggling with the customer service.

I would certainly email back. If you get the same answer then I would call directly and ask to speak to a supervisor. As was mentioned above by bullet08, I wouldn't just let it drop. You know your own internal B.S. threshold better than I do, but when it comes to my hard earned money, I can be pretty tenacious.

My job has a large amount of customer service by nature, so I don't want to be a jackass when it's no big deal. Though, saying that, I try not to leave a customer feeling like service was lacking.
