Morning/afternoon guys! (Aren't time zones just magic?!)

I've tried searching for this, but either my search skills suck, or my search skills suck.

Short version of the story, leatherman prices in the UK are pretty much double what they are in the US, so when I stumbled across Texas Tool Crafters, I figured I could get something real special for the same price (or in some cases, still less!) so…

    1) Does anyone have any experience with TTC? Or with modding leathermans, specifically in their looks?

    2) Do any of you UK dwellers have any experience with ordering multi tools internationally? Would customs have an issue with it? What would import costs be like? Etc.

    3) What is the square root of pi?! :p

Cheers I'm advance for any input guys and gals!

Isn't the square root of pi an imaginary number or something? Ah maths.

From what I understand, the coating they use is solely for looks, but something like TiN would improve rust resistance. I think. I'm no expert.

Question: Why not just use Heinnie Haynes or any of the other UK online sellers?

Sure it does! Just like pi itself it is though an irrational number and (probably) never ends :)

Nope, the square root of a negative number is imaginary (i.e. 'i') The square root of pi (and pi itself) is merely irrational

I do often for other bits and bobs however, the reason I don't plan to on this one is because the equivalent leatherman model in the US usually costs half the price that it is here in the UK, and secondly it's my 21st coming up so I thought I would buy myself a little present so fancied something unique!

O.K., got it now. Next question: why not have a friend in the States buy it and forward it on? I realize you would still have Customs to pay (probably), but wouldn't that be less expensive?

    Meant to answer Q2 too...

There isn't a problem importing a knife etc as long as it's legal in the UK. So any of the Leatherman are legal so its not an issue. (Legal to own being different to being legal to carry in public of course.)

However, VAT at 20% will be payable. There is then usually a further £8 handling charge. You will usually have to pay this to the carrier before or when they deliver. Taxes are usually waived if the declared value is less than $56. At least ISTR its about that - HMRC have details on their web site. In practice, it seems to work out that UK prices are about £ for $ by the time all is done. I've never really had a problem as long as you are prepared for the add on taxes! Recently bought a PocketWrench II from Amazon US site. That was under the tax threshold, so even with international postage it was cheaper than in the UK.

Aww friends! Stop guys, I'm tearing up!

I'm thinking either a charge TTi or a Wave, but possibly with a little something something…if I found either model for a decent price I'd swing for it but ideally I'd have something different…like ceracoated or anodised, something like that.

Also the Juice series is legal to carry in the UK so I might have to get two. You guys are not a good influence for my bank balance.
