Hey guys, I am going to Texas in a couple of months for two weeks and was hoping for some light on knife laws. Also, I was hoping for maybe a list of some good EDC items to bring with me.

    Thanks, Chester

Just don't be a butt head, and cops will leave you alone lol, texas is chill!

In all reality a blade over 5.5' is considered illegal, anything under the legal length can be carried concealed or open.

Well a knife, flashlight, maybe a very light weight jacket or good long sleeve shirt (gets cool sometimes at night), good walking shoes because there is plenty of stuff to see and do in TX, if your visiting amusement parks, they do bag checks at them FYI.

Alright, thanks for the suggestions. I might bring stuff to make an extended EDC bag over there just in case.

Ya, knife laws here are pretty relaxed. We can even carry switch blades and ballisongs.

Texas has 254 Counties, with populations ranging from 4,336,000 in Harris Co.(Houston), to 95 people in Loving Co. (far west Texas). Each county can have slightly different "rules" regarding what knives are legal to carry. State law does say it's illegal to carry a "Bowie Knife". Just use good, common sense , and you won't find a more "carry" friendly state than Texas.

Where in Texas? We've got mountains, deserts, hills, plains, beaches, swamps, and woods. It's likely to be hot. Bandana for sure. Sun hat. They check bags at some venues.

If you're going to a major city, make sure you have traffic on it. If you see an underpass with water depth markers, pay attention.

So I can't carry a sword as tall as I am? That makes me mad. But glad to see my 5 foot long sword can be carried :p

I have never been to Texas and I know nothing about their knife laws, but I'd imagine the most important knife to have access to is a steak knife! Oh, I would hit that Texas BBQ like the fist of an angry God..

The "Q" here in South Central requires only a fork. Most of us use our hands. It's a Texas thing. The brisket I make falls apart on it's own. A cold Big Red or a icey Shiner or Lone Star are all that's needed to compliment.
