I don't think you're wrong on that thought - but I happen to like rugged, over-built gear. The problem arises when people (not you, nor most of this thread) automatically assumes "tactical" means high-speed, tough, durable, cool, desirable, and all around "better" than the non-tactical product. It's like someone advertising "genuine faux pearls" on late-night tv - "genuine faux" sounds really special and nifty and something generally cool...until you find out they're selling genuine fake pearls. You just paid good money for a foreign name and the perceived luster of being associated with something foreign and exotic. The key difference here is are we buying "tactical" gear because we appreciate the quality of the product itself, or are we jumping on the "tactical" bandwagon ("Ooooh, Navy SEALs use this exact watch...if I buy it, I'll be as cool as a SEAL! SQUEEEE!")
I'd say all the ones who don't have a military contract. Though if the gear they make is rugged, and overbuilt; then it's worth the premium.
Instead of pepperoni, you get one sprinkled with B6, B12, and folic acid. Plenty of vitamins and supplements to keep you going.

@Karmakanic The somewhat funny thing about that is that, if I remember correctly, there actually ARE mil-spec brownies and oatmeal cookies here in the U.S. They come in MREs. I don't know the spec ID (honestly I doubt if that's part of it) but it's true...
MIL-C-44072C, MILITARY SPECIFICATION: COOKIES, OATMEAL; AND BROWNIES; CHOCOLATE COVERED (30 APR 1990) [NO S/S DOCUMENT]., This specification covers chocolate covered oatmeal cookies and chocolate covered brownies inflexible bags for use by the Department of Defense as a component of operational rations. Can't directly link to the PDF, but it is easy enough to locate with the spec #. ATB, Sam
@indigo_wolf I had assumed that it was meant to be a joke, and you know what happens when assumptions are made... Oops.
The term "tactical" is certainly overused in contemporary marketing. Unfortunately, due to the term's common use, many manufacturers are goaded into utilizing the term to describe merchandise targeted at the paramilitary or hard-use market. Personally, I won't pay for a descriptive term. On the flip side, I won't dismiss a piece of kit simply because its description contains an overused term.
