First, I dislike the overuse of the word "tactical" but it does help convey a certain meaning.

With that off my chest, I have a shoe challenge for my fellow EDCers:

I'm looking for a casual dress(ish) shoe (not an athletic shoe) that looks good with somewhat tactical pants. I would prefer a slip-on but would accept a low-rise lace-up. Not too dressy. Not too casual. Comfortable, of course, and also comfortable in a business casual boardroom.

So far, the closest thing I've found is the Crocs Santa Cruz Playa slip-on. Not quite there. The white sole dresses them down a bit more than I want.

    And ... go!

I'm in a similar-ish market. I'm heading down a Skechers or timberland route at the moment. I'm taking on a shopping centre tomorrow.

I've always regretted not laying in a large stock of the moccasins w/ Vibram soles which Banana Republic made once upon a time.

These days I wear Sperry Top-Siders in black which don't have as much of a textured sole as I'd prefer (at least they're rubber). I'll probably get a pair of the Jack Spade's Captain's Oxfords (I think they'll be dressy enough if I die the linen thread black) next time I'm shoe shopping.

Redback boots. Good quality, good comfort, and their annual Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale is about to start soon.

Red Wing Shoes. They have some slip on shoes that seems to fit your requirements.

Maybe a pair of quality broques? Loyd, Hawkett, Ted Baker, etc. all make solid ones

I was in a Skechers outlet today - I've checked what those crocs are you've mentioned and I'd say definately look at Skechers. Lots of colours and materials available in a very similar style to those crocs. I'm a Skechers convert - if I was on my feet all day, and could get away without wearing safety boots or dress shoes, I'd wear them. As it goes I bought some clarks boots - last season I think - for a song and was impressed with the quality.

Merrells have some slip ons that are pretty nice and comfortable, have 2 pairs, 1-gray, 1-brown, they also have in black. Believe they are called jungle mocs, $80-$100

I'll second the Red Wings. My daily wear shoes for the last nine months or so have been a pair of Red Wings. I have worn them hiking, on job sites, and with a sports coat. They clean up well with a wet cloth and mink oil.

I would suggest that you reconsider the slip-on preference if you want a "tactical" shoe (even considering a more utilitarian meaning of the word).

I had a US Marshal friend (I say "had" because I haven't talked to him in 4 years) who wore his 5.11 pants and shirts with some Born-looking, slip on leather shoes on the days he wasn't wearing a hiking looking shoe.

Depending on what you mean by "tactical," i.e. lots of Velcro pockets and rip stop, you'll always look a bit out of place unless you're training police cadets or something.

My general attire is probably best described as "contractor casual." I wear pants like TAD's Recons, VertX's Hyde and Delta with a mix of Banana Republic and Kuhl thrown in for good measure. None of these are overtly "tactical" but they offer the utility, in most cases, of more overtly tactical pants. Typically, those pants are combined with a polo or long-sleeve button-front shirt with my company's logo.

Crocs Santa Cruz Playa with VertX Hyde pants. Maybe a little more casual than I wanted but they were $26 on Amazon and, man, are they comfy!
