Anyone decide between these two? What did you chose and why? I picked up a surge, but I am thinking if I made the right chose or not. Just curious what the deciding factor was between these two. This is my first full size leatherman. I have had the Micra on my keychain for at least 6 years now.
I have both. The Wave is more comfortable for daily carry because it is lighter, but the mass of the Surge makes it a more usable tool for me - at least as far as pliers, wire cutting, knife and large screws are concerned. I used my Wave quite a bit when I was helping my folks on their ranch. Just right for cutting twine on bales and always served in a pinch. I did not have the Surge until after they sold the cows, so don't really know if it would have been good for that. I do use my Surge when welding and the size is good for using in that application. So, that was a lot of words to give you no insight on which is better.
Thank you for that. Yea, you can see it certainly bigger. Hmmm...I have a big hand, but I am now starting to have buyer's remorse.....
I chose the surge mainly because i need a heavy duty plier at work and opted for the new one so i can replace the wire stripper blades. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
The current version of the Surge has the improved pliers from the Super Tool 300, including the replaceable cutting blades. The current version of the Wave does not. Both are excellent tools; I own an old Wave, a new Wave, an old Surge and a new Surge. And no, I don't have a problem, thank you for asking .
Don't be shy man...I have many problems like this.....Headphones/audio, Guns/knives, Quadcopters.....my wallet is normally fairly EMPTY.
I had to choose just recently actually. I was considering the wave until I got to play with a surge, I preferred the larger size, it's certainly a beast of a tool but I like it over the wave Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
Depends on if you keep it in a bag or dont mind the weight on you. Its not the lightest tool. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
I wear my surge pretty much daily and the weight doesn't bother me the real difference between the two will be what tools you need and do you need heavy pliers with removable cutters or you want normal pliers and slightly lighter tool. Its always preference. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
For real 'heavy' maybe look at the SuperTool 300? I keep one in the car. In my edc bag is a venerable Blast -- comfortable and has served me well for a long time. Squirt PS-4 with my keys. L'chaim! Moshe ben David
I prefer the Surge. I carry it everyday at work and sometimes when not at work. I like the better scissors and where you can change the file/saw blade, as well as, put regular jig saw blades in it. Also, mine has the replaceable wire cutters. I personally don't get the weight issue. I carry the Surge, bit kit, two saw blades, and extension in a sheath on my belt and can't tell its there. Now in a pocket, especially a big pocket that didn't hold it tight where it would swing around, I could maybe see it being an issue. That said, myself, I wouldn't want to carry either one in a pocket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
