    Hi EDCForums,

Does a non-tactical version of the dragon egg exist? I really like the Dragon Egg and all its features, unfortunately the molle may bring a "tactical" view that I want to avoid.

Any help/suggestions on other packs to look at/for?

    Thanks!

What features from the Direct Action are you looking for in a new bag?

My favorite non-tactical bags are Osprey's 24/7 series

Currently, have a 5.11 COVRT 18 and enjoy the internal zipper pockets (same as Dragon Egg), external water bottle/pockets (same as Dragon Egg), 2 separate compartments for laptop and tablet (well one that can double for hydration or laptop), fleece lined pocket (same as Dragon egg), some basic admin compartments (same as Dragon Egg), a large pocket/compartment for main area

Well, I don't have one, but it sure sounds like you just described the Alpha One Niner Evade. It's on my wish list for one day when I can drop that much on a bag.

+1 on the Evade. The only thing it doesn't have in your list is a fleece-lined pocket, but it does have a similar pocket up front that I don't think would scratch optics. Or, what about one of the North Face bags, like The Recon or Surge? Both bags seem to check all the boxes.

I recently picked up an Under Armor Contender which has several of your requests. So far, so good for me.

The North Face Surge seems to check all your boxes. I’m on my second one and feel it’s a great pack for daily work.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I am looking into the North Face items and A19 Evade for purchasing. Hoping the new Evade 2.0 is released soon.

To update everyone, I took a quick trip to REI and looked at the North Face Router, Surge, Recon and the Osprey Nebula. On the fence about bag purchases., and whether to wait for the Evade 2.0. Then again, not in a hurry and can wait until something comes up on sale.

You could try a Drago Defender. There was a Tactical store in my hotel in Las Vegas last week that had them. They seemed very good quality. They are available on Amazon. There is a nice conceal carry pocket on them.

If they have one, I'd also recommend the Ospey Flapjack backpack. My local REI sometimes has them in-stock with the Flapjack messenger. I can't speak the backpack, but the messenger is dang near perfect.

Thanks everyone for the rest of the suggestions! A buddy also sent over a link showing that there is a local North Face Outlet near work (7 miles). One day this week, I may go see what they have during my lunch.
