i'd say that makes it pretty :censored: collectible. post it over at company's forum and my guess is you're going to get a few pm's to take it off your hands, lol.

I am still speechless what gently wiping the blade with a microfiber cloth did to the spyder. It seems like the body "broke out". Seriously? The logo is supposed to be laser etched....

There is a hole now where the body of the spyder used to be. And what is the material at the bottom of the hole? Looks like glue or something but not steel.

This is my favourite small fixed blade for over a decade now. I have gathered quite a few knives over the years but only twice I had the feeling that I have to buy a knife again and put it aside as a save queen. And the Street Beat is one of these two.

That's why I'm so confused. Otherwise I could be pissed because of lousy quality, ignore it or whatever. But this perfect beauty is my love, was my grail back in the days when I couldn't imagine spending that much on a knife. I just hope this love didn't fool me and blurred my vision of reality.

Why not just ask Spyderco about it?

Sorry about that, I forgot to quote it. They replied; it's a Mini Police. Nice Dragonfly, though!

You might be confusing laser etching with laser printing. Laser etching simply cuts out the spyder shape from the blade. Laser etching does not darken the metal to any appreciable degree. After the logo is cut out with a laser, a black paint or coating of some kind must be applied. That is what has rubbed off.

The different texture in the bottom of the logo is simply the texture of laser etched steel.

If the lost coloration bothers you, you could take it to a jeweler and see if they can "blacken" the logo. The process would similar to what they use to provide an "antique finish" on metal jewelry.

Thank you for this explanation! Actually I didn't know that.

I'm still surprised how easy it came of. Especially because a couple of days ago I was trying to remove the branding on the blade of a cheap Ganzo knife. I tried my very best with everything I have. Including wet sandpaper and other polishing/sharpening tools. But I couldn't remove it where as gently wiping the Street Beat was enough to get this result.

Well, I'm over it now :) This is the current state but I'm still far away from being done with the blade.[IMG]

It looks like you went ahead and cleaned out the rest of the blacking. It looks good.

If you ever do get tired of looking at, drop me a line - that's a beautiful knife!

I actually think it looks better without the dark coloring. Keep enjoying that knife, it’s a beauty

Just got my Bug delivered the other day (next to my PM2 for size comparison). After seeing a tiny Spyderco in a previous post, I just had to get one for myself!

Amazing, the size difference! Looks almost unreal. Spyderco ought to take the PM2 and make a cutout in the scales so the bug can actually dock inside it.
