Well, since you get more darkness than most, I think that a 50 light flashlight collection, even at an average of $75, is still relatively cheap fun.

I'm really loving the two-mode triple Nichia 219 Sportac drop-in. Here are some quick and dirty pictures taken with my iPhone. I've yet to take some more serious beam shots, etc.

I set this one up for 2-AA use.

It has a Nailbender XP-G 3K 3-speed Low Voltage Drop-in and lasts a pretty amazing time on low while camping and the color of the beam is sweet outside at night.

I keep this one in my camper mostly.

What kind of drop-in have you put in this one?

    Sorry re-read my post.
I place the pics with my phone but then add text from the desktop!

Crazy maybe but I hate typing on the phone!

Agreed. The warmer tints really are more accurate color-friendly, and easier on the eyes. I'd never have thought I'd warm up to them (no pun intended), until I got my first HI CRI light:

L2N with S11 switch, A001 head, B6 bezel, and Erik Kress XM-L 7C 5-mode drop-in. This is the one that got me hooked on SolarForce lights, and eventually, the more neutral, to warm tints.

Yeah it's amazing how many different directions this hobby can take me,and my money!

I got started with the "Hard Stuff" when I snagged a Malkoff 219 drop-in for a G2 and it wasn't long before I was ordering more parts.
Then a Peak Logan 219 and well you know the story.

Solarforce is an easy indulgence and a good Lego time!

Triple Nichias come with 2 modes these days? Is this a recent developement? I've been happy with my single mode one but this sounds too cool to pass.

Edit. Never mind. Read back the conversation and then googled it.

The L2 on the far left is hard to see - it's a UV light.
Notice the different tints? It's nice to have tint options [IMG]

Any of you guys done an L2m with 1xAA? I understand a low voltage drop-in, and people are saying cutting springs? Is there a cheater pvc pipe or something to use as a spacer? I found a few threads on the concept but no details.

I have a couple of L2's with extenders set up for 2xAA, but hadn't given much thought to running an L2m on 1xAA. Oveready makes a battery sleeve in 50mm length for running a single AA in an 18mm tube. I guess the issue would be the tailcap spring and drop in spring. They would have to be trimmed back to accommodate the length of the AA while still being able to tighten everything down. Might be a fun project.

Like twin63 mentioned I think an OR or Fivemega tube would be the best route. Not "cheap" but the rest of the parts on the light are. I have a 18500 tube which was like $40 but threads are awesome and it's got plenty of o-rings in it. Connection problems and ratttling are the biggest pains with flashlights (IMHO) so I'm more prone to cut my losses with a credit card than tinker. Especially for a part that never gets outdated.

This is the newest overall picture of my full collection. The Solarforce lights are in the front row. They got a lot of use - especially the L2P with the Sportac Triple Nichia 219 2-mode drop-in :D

I've never thought of attempting to use AA batteries in my Solarforce lights; until fairly recently (to keep around the house, since other household members are more NiMh-friendly, than lithium ion friendly lol).

Solarforce sell the L2R (which is essentially an L2 model, with an extender (included), to accommodate the use of two AA batteries (like twin63 mentioned, in Post #195). The lower voltage requirements of a P60 drop-in functioning on AA batteries, will limit your options, considerably, though. Not a lot of companies make a P60 that supports the lower voltage of the AA battery.

You sure you want to go that route?

But seriously, no - no plan. Options aren't a problem, I'd just use an SF low voltage drop-in (in fact I think I have one laying around somewhere already) and call it good. Run time and output are really the question. If it'll put out the same light as whatever is in my pocket (Thrunite T10 right now) and for roughly the same amount of time, win. But I think run time will be the issue. Dunno.
