Spending a few days taking offspring No 1 down to Wellington for a boy break.

Just got airport security nabbed for a knife in my carry-on. But lady measured it and it was less that 6cm (about 2.3") so she said it was all ok.
    Good to know.
Sons first flight. We did a few LOTR things. Pics soon

    Great trip so far

Lucky you. I'm pretty sure fiber mail clippers are still a no-no flying here.

    Thanks fellas.
The pocket knife was a disposable corporate-giveaway SAK clone, so I fully expected to lose it. I truly believed no blade was allowed. But I wanted to see if a small 2 layer SAK type is ok for carry on. I actually told the lady "take it if you need to. " so I'm not sure if that factored in or if they even have any level of discretion or interpretation. They had a steel ruler glued to the desk, so it's probably something they often check.
I'll try it a few more times with my throw-away tools first before I risk my nice stuff.

Yep, Simple meals is about right too. I tossed up taking the boy to a real flash capital city restaurant or the jacket and tie at the Hotel, but thought we'd save that as a family event and when the young fella has more than jeans and a t shirt.
We chose a good pub meal on Cuba Mall instead. Ribs and beer (boy not liking beer taste yet so lemonade was strong enough for him) and watched MMA on their big screen [IMG].

He dropped many hints at trying out room service. So he got to order and sign for his brekky delivery himself. He felt like the bees knees.

For a change we got less generic brands as our flight rations. My boy got 3 because he smiled at the lady.

We did all public transport, busses and tram, trains, since they actually have a working version of it unlike Auckland.

We were not allowed photos on the studio tour.

So insert here your own imaginings of all the super cool full size creations plus lots and lots of weapons.

At the airport departures but still LOTR.

This was a very moving exhibition at our National Museum of WWI soldiers in the Gallipoli Campaign.

The figures were crafted 2.4 x human size. And they definitely are giants of men. Favourite son no.1 standing beside for scale.

This particular display speaks volumes. A fallen comrade.

And his mates laying down lead over him.

Red timeline throughout the exhibition, each cross signifies a fallen soldier.

Powerful is right. Not many people spoke while walking around. I was actually very impressed with the reverence my son gave the displays.

The fact they were so giant and the perfect detail, hair, sweat, grime made the whole exhibition extremely humbling, and very very eerie.
