    Hidden Woodsman haversack.

I used one for quite some time but found it a bit too heavy. Nonetheless, an awesome bag. Built like a tank and a half and US made.

This is the bag I keep going back to! I've bought and sold at least a dozen others, but the Hidden Woodsman isn't going anywhere except with me.

I too have been looking for a small bag. I just pulled the trigger on a Mountainsmith Adventure Office (small). I'll report back after I get it and post up on how it's working out.

I've got a couple Timbuk2 large Classic Messenger bags and they're great, but they're really too big. I have this really bad habit of filling a bag (i.e. I might need this...and this...and I can't leave this behind...and...). If I fill one of these bags I might as well carry a pack because they're the same weight. I hope this new bag will help me keep it light.

This was mentioned by poster @panzer, Finnish army vintage gas mask bag. It is quite common sight here in Finland and dirt cheap. I got mine for 1,50 euros from a flea market.

Bag is made of heavy duty canvas and has shoulder strap with waist strap also. If you feel like it, the bag can be used as a waist bag also (with waist strap around your leg). Very robust & low-tech and quite impossible to wear out.[IMG]

I purchased a Nutsac Mag Satch and love it! Fits my important essentials, and is very compact.

I havent felt my GAS act up for months and looking at them pics had my meter hitting red immediately! Curse you and thank you at the same time, shock cord mod looks like it should be there from the factory.

Care to reveal how you put it in place? How's it working out? More pics yes?

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the 5.11 MOAB 6 or the 5.11 2banger. Both incredible bags. Nice and small.

Pacsafe have some options - metrosafe LS140 or a LS150 sling pack, lots more to be honest.

Haha, trust me as soon as I saw someone with it on the street, I knew I had to get one. There are actually loopholes on the bag already and as soon as I saw them, I instantly thought about running shock cord through it. The OCD in me didn't like how they bunched up so I did a simple safety pin hack and ran the shock cord through there. I'll see about posting more pics later.

I can relate to that reaction. I already found a european retailer even so i might pull the trigger. Only thing that bugs me is the shiny/chrome buckle but i think i'll either live with it or replace it (if possible) or worst case scenario give it a paintjob or hardcore steel brush to mattify the finish. I keep thinking it'll reflect sunlight like crazy and either blind me or someone else...

Yep that buckle is pretty shiny and can get annoying and heavy. I think they make one with a matte black buckle.

If my memory is correct. Indiana Jones carried a British gas mask bag.

Woho!! If not available then i still can look forward to take a steel brush and/or "customize" it. Maybe take of the brand patch too. Shock cord mod is a MUST, maybe something more yes? I'm feeling creative lately. :D

To OP: I gotta ad that carhartt, nike or adidas did a classic take on the "european carryall" with decent internal organizing and quality make. Not so expensive anymore, about the size of an ipad retina. Drawback is they're top-loaders so they dont open up so much, any small items will require "digging" for unless you McGyver some solution.

The big plus is: low-key and cheap for popular name-brand stuff, should hold up ok for a couple years of medium use (no extreme napalm sports or rolling-down-mountainsides level activities).

Also, very easy to remove any fancy brand-tags or faff and achieve a clean look, almost all my regular users recieve that treatment. :)

How about a Helikon-Tex bushcraft satchel? Lightweight, 500d Cordura.

Saw one of those helicon-tex satchels on my webhunts today and it made me do a double take, it seemed very nice.
