The SKS is a great gun ... I have three of them and shoot'em whenever I can! Hope you had fun!

Thanks! This baby is bone-stock. I'm thinking of changing the stock and getting a few of those Tapco 20-round mags, but then again, it runs like a champ as-is and kinda looks cool. I'm really on the fence as to making any modifications on this. But the thought of having an easy to load 20 round mag on tap is very appealing.

Yep, Wishoot, mine are all stock, too (well, I had a buddy who's a gunsmith smooth the triggers on each of them, but that doesn't really count, although it made a heckofa difference in my shot groups!).

I can remember when you could pick them up for $75 packed in kosmoline, with bayonet, ammo bag, six stripper clips and the pill bottle cleaning kit. I was in a local pawn shop the other day and they had one for $650. I almost barfed on my boots.

Prices are crazy. I was happy to pay $350 for this Chinese example with matching numbers several months ago. Now I'm seeing ugly Yugo's going for even more.

I got a Yugo SKS 12 years ago for 105 bucks. It didn't come with anything but the bayonet. A week ago at the range doing bayonet rushes with live fire some fool tells me you shouldn't treat a $1500 (yes 1500) rifle like that.

I remember in the early 90's a gun show vendor had several crates of four SKS's each, for $250
    a crate. :furious:

The SKS is one of the reasons I'll never sell another gun...

I bought one in '94 or '95 at a shop near Albany, NY for $150 +/-, swapped out the stock and ended up trading it in for credit toward a shotgun... Should have kept it!

The SKS is a fun gun. I've made mine better balanced and a whole lot more fun to shoot. The cheap but dirty ammo is a blast too!

    Dude.

Tell me everything you can about this arrangement. I'm assuming thats the Shernic Gun Works (SGW) Bullpup stock?

Yes, SGW Bullpup. I bought mine when the wait was six or so months out. I think they've gotten quicker with production. Easy build. It took roughly an hour to assemble. The SKS is a heavy rifle. This stock balances it out perfectly. It is still heavy, but a lot more comfortable to carry with a sling.
My SKS is a Yugo. I originally "Bubba'd" it out with a Tapco. Those stocks should be renamed CRAPCO ! Poor excuse for an aftermarket stock.
The Shernic takes a little bit more time to break down for a good scrub after the dirty ammo, but not that bad at all.
The red dot is one I picked up at Academy. Sight Mark brand. Only a little over $100. Has held zero so far after about 500 rounds.

What kind of magazines can you use with the SGW stock?

I tried but all he wanted to do was trade 3 Hi-Point pistols that couldn't find paper at 10 feet and a RIA that couldn't fire a round without a jam.

Man! You could have sold those 3 HiPoints for like 3 bills a piece in the hood and RIA could be fixed.
