    Hi all,

I've recently been looking at getting a right angle light to use as a headlamp during hunting season and as a general purpose work light the rest of the year.

As far a single cell AA lights, I am aware of offerings from:

    - Zebralight
    - Fenix
    - Armytek
    - Ultrafire
    - Maratac

Are there any others I should consider? Any thoughts on these in general?

Also, mostly as an aside, are there any AAA right angle lights on the market?

    Thanks guys and God bless!

    Adam

I looked at this and went off the idea. I looked at the ones your list, zebralight and armytek stood out for me but jetbeam were also worth a look. Eagletac do them (branded as sportac) but I don't recall a AA version.

As an aside, nitecore do a headband that will fit a "regular" torch I think.

As another aside xtar do one as well - has a red lamp too which you might find useful.

Spark and Ultrafire are the ones I own that come with headbands for use as headlamps. Dorcy also makes an angle head flashlight if you want to go ubercheap, though I don't think it comes with a strap.

I'm sure if you search any of the known Chinese proveyors of flashlights, you will find many more.

Don't recall seeing any in AAA, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

As an aside, you can just buy a headlamp and use any small normal flashlight you may already own so long as you don'e ming it being on the side of your head.

Most of the Petzl and Black Diamond and Princeton Tec headlights use some variety of AAA batteries and many are really nice lights even though they don't resemble the tube type lights we usually talk about.

The Black Diamond are intriguing for sure as many of them are even able to be dimmed to both get an optimum level and longer runtimes too.

I have been using them now for a few months now and am pretty impressed.

Thanks for the input fellas! I've posted a WTB looking for one of these before September 1... I might just get an Ultrafire ($32 shipped is the best in class) coming just in case though. I'd order the Maratac, but their shipping is outrageous.

I tried tying my S15 to a headband, but the lens on my glasses caught quite a bit of the light and the set up was not a good one. I like that idea otherwise though!

When camping I always wear a hat, the S15 clips to the brim of it just fine as a make-shift headlamp.

I have the Ultrafire UF-H2b and it's a good light. LOTS of flood, very little throw. Great for hands-on tasks but not for traveling in the dark.

The headband/strap it came with gets more use than the light itself. It holds just about all my single AA lights perfectly, side of head instead of in front.

The only problem with this light is the parasitic drain; so it's not a great choice for just leaving it in a bags for weeks or months. On the plus side, it will take a 14500.

Looking hard at the Xtar H1 or the Jetbeam H10A now (because the Armytek and Zebralight are just expensive!). Any thoughts on those two?

My favorite headlight is the Nitecore HC90, but it isn't single-AA. The Fenix HL50 is (it will handle either one AA or one CR123A), and I liked it so much after buying one for my wife that I got one for myself. Super-nice light for the price.

S15R is on sale at GearBest.
Need to use link through their thread to get crazy price.
If in market, I wouldn't pass it up, but that's me.

I use my Fenix HL50 all the time, Its a top little light. The only issue is it can "bump" on in your pocket or bag and go flat. Can't lock out with a turn of the cap either.
Would like to hear of anyones thoughts on how to fix that!
Having said that for what it is i havent found anything better in my opinion.

Thanks for all the input guys. I found a retailer offering a 20% coupon on Armytek, so I went with their model. $51 shipped was too good to pass up!

I have the same issue with mine. I turn the light on and unscrew the tail cap about 12 times until it turns off to make sure it doesn't come on but it's a pain in the ...

If there are other ideas I would welcome them.

Fenix has the single AAA HL10 and Maratac has Personal Flood TPF single AAA in case the OP is still interested in finding a AAA anglehead.

    I have the zebra light

I've found the AA lasts a long time and the beam is pretty tight but with good flood.

The only criticism is the weight.. seems quite heavy for its size.

I tend to leave it in my glove compartment rather than jeans pocket/belt carry

Streamlight's sidewinder and sidewinder compact have color leds including red plus the main white led. They're not traditional style angle lights though and probably wouldn't be real great for pocket carry.
