I'm curiuos about if people in the past where more easier to please when it comes to entertainment. In contrast with todays internet with lots of content, entertaiment and distractions. From todays point to view, the radio looks like a relict of a more gentle, smooth time.

    Thanks sino2!
i remember my Grandfather having this little am radio back in the 70's and a few years ago my sister pulled it out of a box and asked if i wanted it.
Its an great little radio that works perfect and is really valid in todays age. In the outback of Australia the "important" stuff is still broadcast on am. IE: news, wheather alerts, cyclone warnings etc. I even use it up the shed occasionally and it has a long runtime on 1 x AA!

I just got mine going last night and the sound quality coming out of excellent! I think we have all become used to the rubbish quality of music via our phones etc now days. I got a few years of good use from my minidisc and it was /is a great little unit. Because it was before I had a computer I bought a discman and would copy CD's over onto my minidisc with a fibre optic cable, and it would be a perfect rendition of the original.

Sino2... great period of time to grow up in, with a little exception... it's hard to see, but the little triangle just to the right of the 16 was one of the CONELRAD (control of electromagnetic radiation) designated stations of 640 and 1240 kHz to be used in case of a nuclear war...we had "duck and cover" drills in elementary school, and neighbors were digging fallout shelters during the Cuban Missile Crisis...good music

That's awesome. I do have an old flight computer somewhere, but not with that much history!

Bought this Hitachi Tuner/Amp around '83 or '84. I used it sporadically until about 2010. It still works, but I've since discarded the other components. My sound system is now located in another room.

We had one of those when I was growing up. Lasted for a remarkable number of years.

Tiny screen but has come in handy when the power goes out. Wish they still made these but obviously with much larger screens.

This isn't really that old or that used but I guess that it's pretty redundant due to there being a slot for a tape cassette.

If it makes you feel better, I have a different model from Casio as well. Bought it at a cheap independent pharmacy about 4 months before analog signals were to end. But thankfully, horrendously bad planning of execution by the powers that be; delayed the cut off for a year and a half instead. Used mine every night at my boring job. Tough to explain, it was a garbage job and I still got all my work done while watching TV and not being bored out of my skull. Working 2nd shift (4pm-Midnight) helped with what was shown on the little TV.

Now, strangely, all it picks up is an analog signal from China in Chinese; of one of their networks. Picks it up on channel 2. That's all though.

I wish it was the '90s. Economy was doing great. Technology was advanced enough without a generation hopelessly addicted to their phones the way babies are to their pacifiers.
