    Not sure what to make of it in a good way or a bad way? Bad way, sounds like. Most of Busse's coated blades don't look so hot underneath the coatings - pits, scratches, marks, etc., especially of late. Some Busse Combat knives - not the Swamp Rats or ScrapYards - have a nearly perfect finish under the coating, but it's pretty hit and miss. Only the satin and double cut have the blade milled out to near perfection. The B.I.G. series of Busse Combat are about half way between the satin/double cut and the coated blades. If you're willing to put the time in, you can sand and polish any of the blades to perfection.

    saniterra I have many Busse and kin. I've just never seen the vertical lines and weird swirl lines going into the tip. I guess that is why they coat the cheaper blades :)

    I agree that they coat the blades so they have to spend less time on milling, grinding and polishing. Of course, the coated blades generally reflect the reduced time in the prices of the blade. Still, I don't believe that these surface flaws make the blades any less servicable. But if you strip one, including the carbonate base coating, you need to keep them cleaned and oiled as the surface imperfections don't rust so easily.

    CS Bushman + stick = spear, Mora Companion, TOPS Mohawk Hunter

    Tried my hand at batonning some firewood into kindling with the Tops for the first time last weekend. I was pretty impressed. Not only was it pretty easy to do, the knife completely held its edge. I lost a fair amount of the black finish, but hey, now it looks cooler. Gives it character.

    Seems like leaving it with an imperfect surface, roughing it up alittle bit underneath would help certain coatings stick to the surface better. Mechanical adhesion.. But yea I get it it doesn't look hot but was never meant to be stripped I suppose so they probably didn't think anything of it.

    Been keeping off buying scales for my izula for ages, its my cheapy beater and i today realised that any amount of money was too much for me to add to it so i fabricobbled something together from scraps;

    Nice matching cutouts glued to the handle slabs

    Presses on nice and snug;

    Looking beautiful!! And that's a real shame because this is a workhorse so in comes the black rubber tennis-racket wrap and fugly tape;

    Yeah did look great indeed... I actually considered screwing it together with some nice brass hardware to keep it fancy but i know myself, if something is purdy ill go way too easy on it. And this knife's sole purpose is to get banged up as i already have way too many knives that are fancy. And honestly, ugly as it may look, the grip on this knife is now phenomenal! Maybe one day ill buy one of these in blank steel, make a nice leather sheath for it and give it a proper wooden handle (the wood used here is very cheap/light/soft).

    New handles for my Esee4 (top). Love this knife but the handles were a bit small for me. Ordered these and what a difference. Picture here with my new Esee4 HM.
