Nice old school Recon Tanto you have there. Carbon V blade I am guessing?

Looks like the twin to mine, right down to the matching leather sheath. I'm guessing that knife is circa 1997-98, back when Cold Steel was near the top of the heap of hard use, no compromise knives.

This is one of my 2 knives I would grab if ever the S.H.T.F. The other being my Esee 6

Thanks! Yep Carbon V version. Came scary sharp. I don't remember exactly, but I think it might be a little newer than that. It was a factory second (though I couldn't tell you why) right after they moved to the new sheath, so it came with the old leather one. And I would agree that if things went bad and I had to take just 2 knives, that would be one of them. Along with my GSO 4.1 (which is also a factory second and even though they told me why I can't seem to find the problem).

I believe it was '99 they switched to the kydex sheath. I remember when they switched over to the new style, I sent them a letter (snail mail, I don't think they even had a website then) asking about buying one of those sheaths. Not available for purchase seperately, if memory serves.

And that old time Carbon V was great stuff. This was a knife they just got 'right'...

One of the fixed blades. A German boy scout knife, probably from the 70's.

    If it's a real one.

I cannot find the one I had. I was in the service at the time and left it packed away at my parent's house. Unfortunately, during that time thunder storms were overly common and a lightning strike on one of our storage buildings led to all three of them burning to the ground along with most of our stored possessions. It was a rough time for the family as we lost a number of family heirlooms as well. That fire has left me without a number of items that I had squirreled away as a kid. :(

    Nice ZT

I always thought the handle looked way too wierd and ackward, but then finally had the chance to handle a 0200 - which has the same basic handle shape. I found it extremely surpriing just how good it felt in the hand.

How do you find this knife?

I bought it off the exchange on Bladeforums.

It's an awesome knife. I carried it some but haven't used it yet. It's right in that middle size for me. Too big for daily carry, and too small for a big knife. The handle feels the same as the 0200 just slimmer. Probably my least used blade but definitely one of my coolest.

My Fiddleback Forge Bushboot finally arrived today. Eucalyptus burl goodness with natural micarta liners and an orange pin-strip. This is a grail-knife for me:
