I use a lighter to melt heat shrink tubing and paracord and don't see how a plasma lighter could accomplish these tasks. With a conventional lighter, you can move the flame closer or farther away to quickly adjust the heat applied to an object.

Some people have used a conventional lighter to heat a key and warm a frozen lock in the winter. How can a plasma lighter do that?

I'm a member of the redundant department of redundancies..... Main source is a zippo with the zippo torch insert, second is a couple of bic lighters, and third is a box of wooden matches. Zippo for cigarettes, bic for pipe, and matches for the random cigar.

This guy is big, almost a table lighter size (which is what I use it for) and in brass.

Well got a free zippo arc insert offered to me. Gonna try it out and see if it impresses me any more than the china arc lighter I had did. It's in the mail so no telling when it'll get here with the holidays but I'll try to remember to comment back.

Oldest son gave me this for my birthday. Put a butane insert in it and it lives in my messenger bag.

Well been using the zippo brand arc lighter and still not impressed with arc lighters. It adds a good bit of weight and the charge doesn't last near as long as the cheapo lighter I had. The double tap to light is annoying at first but you get used to it. Overall I wouldn't suggest unless you just want it for lighting cigarettes or the novelty.

New glow in the dark Zippo arrived last night - lighting doesn't do it justice...

Rediscovered an old trick I used to know.

Turns out a Mini Bic is the exact height of standard Duct Tape and Gaffers tape.

I like to wrap them so that the taped Mini is the same exact diameter as a full size Bic:

Gorilla Tape = 12" of tape to reach full size Bic Diameter

Gaffer Tape = 24" of tape to reach full size Bic Diameter

    WWII Zippo:

Since brass and high grade steel were needed for the war effort Zippo had to use a lower grade steel which tended to quickly rust. So, the company painted and then baked the lighters, creating a crinkled finish.
