From the Opinel website, they use a Sandvik steel, as described here:

"The stainless steel grade for the OPINEL blades has been optimised to get the best compromise between resistance to corrosion and mechanical strength properties. Its carbon and chromium content are respectively 0.5 and 14.5%. Our 12C27MOD stainless steel is produced and finalised in Sweden by the SANDVIK group, internationally renowned in the cutlery industry. {https://www.opinel.com/en/the-brand/know-how/blade}"

Whilst Sandvik steels are not necessarily the latest in 'super steels', they are pretty good performers... with a known ability to be resharpened relatively easily.

It’s a VDK Impaler. Brand new acquisition. He contracts out to WE Knives and they make them for him.

Actually, 12C27 is one of my favorite all-round knife steels.

Of course, newfangled supersteels like S30/35V hold an edge longer. Special steels like the H1 used by Spyderco are more rust resistant. But the humble Sandvik is a pretty good Jack of all trades.

12C27 holds an edge pretty well, without being too hard to sharpen. It is also rather tough, and reasonably rust resistant. All in all, it is far superior to steels like 420 HC and AUS8, at least in general purpose knives.

On a side note, the carbon Steel used by Opinel is also pretty good - and takes a wicked edge.

    EDIT: Spelling corrected.

Had to combo these girls because there is a new CRK on it's way now :D Had the opportunity to pick up a large 25 Sebenza Micarta to complement my 21 Micarta. Was going to get the large Inkosi but I can pick that up at a later date. The 25 is discontinued and this might have been my last chance to get my grubby paws on one. No safe queens here, not babied all well used![IMG]

@Gary Gross: that's a very nice looking stockman. I'm guessing it is larger than the usual medium size Case? Please, tell me more about it! I love stockman patterns...

    According to the seller:
Imperial Prov. RI USA 2 Blade Jack Knife

This knife features Black & Silver Striped Celluloid handles, Carbon Steel blade, Nickel Silver bolsters with Brass liners. The tang is stamp reads "Imperial Prov. R.I. USA". It measures 4" closed.

It was just so pretty I had to buy it!

It's a self-made carbon fiber paper knife or Kohlefaserbrieföffner for you ;)

Inspired by the Boker damascus letter opener but mine is longer

Hm, now as I see it again I should maybe make the tantoish tip a bit longer, that's looking more useful.

I'm also thinking about making another one from titanium but then closer to a standard shape like this:

Good on you! I knew it had to be larger than a medium. Any idea when it was made?
