The thick blade was my only real concern with this knife, too.
Since I've reground it (learned a lot from my mistakes on the way) it a great slicer and my ewdc (every workday carry) knife.
It goes through rawhide same well as through 1" EVA foam while better to control as any bigger knife I own.

Maybe someday I get another one to make all the modifications again the right way and without the doomsday look :p

ahh look at it this way -- just keeps y'all in closer touch with your two primary 'motherlands' -- UK and France! Yeah, I know; a low blow. Just couldn't resist. My sympathies!

Maybe see it this way. There are other things, maybe more important, where you have an advantage, due to living there.

Took a family photo this morning, My fixed blade knives and the SAK are reserved for camping and hiking trips and the Spyderco is stored in my daily driver with my first aid kit. The other folders are all part of my EDC rotation.

I love this knife. So much so that I have two of them. One for usual edc rotation. One in a dedicated two-slot pocket sheath -- the other slot occupied by a slim version of the Opinel 8. These two are dedicated for use in restaurants and only that! I've used both on steaks. They glide through the meat, NO sawing motions!

Is it an optical illusion or does this knife have a bit of recurve?

Not so much a recurve as just a curve. A 'drop-point wharncliff'?

I now have the folded metal handle knife trifecta. A Higonokami from Japan, a Douk-douk from France and now a Mercator from Germany

@ThaMac: I think it would be interesting if you posted another pic marking in some manner which 'survived' the purge! And if you added any, showing those also....

This coming from a guy who never posts any pics... ;)

Survivors are the PM2, the fixed blade and the red SAK. The additions will be shown later, or have been already.
