You should check the new scale from @gemini and see more of the work of its maker. Goodness, doesn't help me to try on scales when I see those pieces of art...
Thank you very much guys! It's great to be appreciated for doing something you love to do. Gotta love that toxic green and black kirinite!
Okay knife mod friends, does the ZT 0566 have a spring that assist the flipper? I am contemplating taking the scales off to work on a mod (once i finish the tenacious). Is there anything I need to know before I take this knife apart? See, I have the bug! Already looking at new ideas for scale mods, and I haven't even finished the first one!! What happened?!
@SMAJ the 0566 does have a torsion bar, depending on if it is a newer one or not will determine whether it is the large or small spring. It is no more difficult to dis/assemble than any other A/O ZT/ Kershaw. I don't believe you will find it very challenging
Thanks..it is new....just got it!! I have never disassembled an assisted knife! This is my first knife of this kind.
I prefer to dis-assemble kershaw/ZT AO's with the blade half way open. In that position there is no load on the torsion bar.
Thanks!! I will try that technique! I want to avoid losing any parts, especially if there is a spring involved....
@Keyman, live a little, wheres the danger in that Actually thanks for catching a that helpful hint that I neglected. SMAJ will be glad too
When replacing standoffs with a back spacer, Pivot Barrels can be used. Cut a length of pivot barrel equal to the thickness of the back spacer or equal to the length of the original standoffs. These will replace the standoffs. Then you can anchor everything down with screws from both sides. Do a search for: Pivot Barrel 1/8"x 3/8" for folders with (2) 2-56 x 1/4 BH SS
Apart is easy, just pull all the screws on the G10 scale side (including the pivot), and it comes apart super easy. Putting together again is a slightly different matter... Is not that tough to (dis)assemble, the tought part with the ZT (and Kershaw) speed-safe assisted open is milling out the spring pocket properly. Not too sure about other models, but I can't imagine they are much different, the 0566 a millled posket in the liner and the scale have to match up properly or the tension spring (no idea why they call it a torsion spring, because it is not that in the least) will bind up of catch in any mismatches in the pocket. Here's a couple of pics from when I made the scale for my 0566 the pocket you see here must be milled in the back side of the scale and must match up (more than) fairly closely to the pocket in the scale.
I do believe the handle/spacer screws on the 0556 are 4-40 and not 2-56 Key... Just for information sake...
Whoa! Thanks for the information and the pictures! I imagine this will present much more a of a challenge for sure! I will definitely save this information for the future!! Thanks again!
