Got bored again so did the only logical thing and modified a knife I thought I would love but ended up disliking. Love it now. Waved and acid washed the shiny spots on the blade where I was working. Can still be opened with my thumb or middle finger. Went to 1000 grit on the belt sander.
Piester Nice mod, do you have some pics with the original blade shape? If you want to see a bad example of your good idea, scroll down I miscalulated the route our grinding wheel for milling cutters would take and had to close the now useless pin hole with a copper pin. The ferric chloride worked well on my grinding, too, I like that technique for coated blades. Sadly the modified blade didn't help me to like this knife, even after de-assisting it. The Cryo is just way too bulky and heavy for my taste but it was fun to play with it. Oh, and it has a nice deep carry clip (and many useless clip holes), if there wasn't Kershaw written on it I'd like to use it for an Alox SAK...
Adahn thank you. I don't seem to have a before picture. Though I do remember seeing pictures of your knife when I was thinking about doing this. Really like the plug idea. You can always sand that pocket clip down and acid etch it haha
It's nice if you learned from my mistake because I don't think I'll do thid modification again, I just don't really dig the Wave feature. True about etching but the Kershaw logo is lasered, at least it was so on a spare clip for the Chill. When I tried to etch it I only got holes eaten in, same on Ganzo's 440C steel. Never happened to any other item but this clip and every Ganzo blade I etched. Uglifyed Ganzo, well, I don't like it enough to sand it even... But I really like to etch Kershaw's and CRKT's Sandvik steel, the blades show a pattern like damascus afterwards, no idea why. (I always use ferric chloride, the safest way to etch steel.) Hmm, would be a good idea to make a carbon fiber scale for the Swindle, it's really too heavy for it's size. But I don't know if I really want to do it...
Keyman: do those scales glow in the dark? They sure look good especially with the black blade! L'chaim! Moshe ben David
I am in the market for a ZT 0450 and I was wanting to get anodized to a either a blue or bronze/copper-ish color. Does anyone know of a reputable company or person who does for a reasonable price? Or am I better off buying one that's already been anodized? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Absolutely beautiful! Outstanding work done here totemeca. You should be quite proud. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Waved my 300. Can still thumb and middle finger flip it. Got pretty good at removing waved knives from my pocket without opening them haha. Counterintuitive to its purpose but it's nice to have options.
