Add the TWSBI Eco to the list of budget pens. I'm really liking mine so far.
I haven't added a TWSBI to my collection yet, though I am always keeping my eyes out for one of their Micarta pens.
The Micarta is such a cool and unique pen. If you can pick one up, I would. Maybe a couple months ago, they found a case of them and put them up for sale on their facebook page. Sold out in a couple days if I remember correctly.
They're probably my favorite FP company behind Pilot. Granted, I don't have a lot of experience with higher end brands.
For the record, the cap of my Vac700 broke the other day, just out of nowhere. The plastic cracked all the way around the metal cap band. I haven't had a chance to email TWSBI, but I'm sure they'll get one in the mail to me as soon as possible.
Carry and use my Namiki XF Falcon (Pilot Elabo) more than anything... except my Kuretake brush pen.
Using the Falcon on some freelance work right now.
Ok,just to keep you informed:Its always good to check what to get, before christmas,to avoid disappointment:
I checked the FP and the tip of the nib is bend down. Goes back to sender.
(Had the same with a blankgun some year ago,had a shabby surface fininsh.)
New pen day Platinum 3776, smoke/rhodium trim, F nib, writes gooooood.
Highbinder that's a classy looking FP right there!
Photo evidence of the Vac 700 breakage.

Thanks! Black cigar is pretty classic configuration, and personally I'm more into the understated rhodium trim than gold. It's a lot of pen for the money Lovely nib. Do recommend.
Is that your Vac? The quality of the TWSBI plastic seems mediocre! I have seen a lot of reports of breakage over on FPN, and it's put me off the brand. I love vac fillers, used to have a Pilot Custom 823 and had considered the Vac700 as a cheaper replacement but I won't risk it.
Highbinder yes, that's my Vac700. It's the first problem I've had with a TWSBI that wasn't user induced (I learned that you can over tighten the nib units on a 580 and that the tube holding the feed will crack if you do).
If you've seen my posts on the FP threads here, you'll know I don't have any qualms about TWSBI as a brand. The few problems I've had, they've dealt with very quickly. And I have no doubts they'll send a new Vac700 cap out once I get around to emailing them.
And as I've said, the two 580's I carry nearly every day are still holding up fine.
How'd you like the Pilot Custom 823? I'd really love one when I get a couple hundred bucks available to blow on a pen.

True I've heard their customer care makes up for any shortfalls in QC.
I loved the 823 and at some point down the line I'll be looking to get another. Huge no15 nib and a massive capacity, but as with most vac fillers it was an absolute pain to clean out. I lost it in a bar in Amsterdam and it broke me - it was my most expensive pen!
I got the Franklin-Christoph #2 pen medium cursive italic a little early for my birthday/holiday present. I haven't taken photos yet, but I will. I love this pen. I have it converted to eyedropper mode. It is sweet!
Got this in trade. Not sure if I'm sold on the shape yet, but the 14k nib sure is a smooth writer.

since last i was here.. that's some time ago.. i ran my davis leatherwork simple notebook with my field note in a washer.. not a good idea. but the leather dried nicely and i was able to put some pecard on it and bring it back to life. but my older son wanted it. so i gave it to him and ordered a new one from davis. he actually sent wood cover notebook with this order. been carrying kaweco sports as usual.. but decided i want something lighter, so solid burgundy plastic one has been going out with me. just older the solid brass sport.. something about brass, and copper.. i just love them. that one will be next edc fp for awhile..
Just got a Pilot Capless for Christmas, fine nib in Matt black. It didn't come with a cartridge and I have no ink! Hopefully head to the shops tomorrow. Not too sure how I'll carry it I may look for a rigid pen case.
Pens I sometimes carry in the pen loop of my canvas vest include:
Bexley America the Beautiful, black
Lamy Safari, mustard yellow
Sheaffer Targa, chrome
Sheaffer Targa, stainless steel
I've had a Lamy 2000 fountain pen and matching pencil before, and I had mixed feelings about the pen. It was great in many ways but also had a few quirks that annoyed me. I ended up giving both of those to a friend, then ever since have pondered getting another.
I've had multiple TWSBIs, but they broke... and broke... and broke... They broke when I hit them with a dirty look, and they broke when I didn't hit them with anything. It's a shame because otherwise the Vac 700 would have been near the top of my all-time favorites list, but now I consider it unusable.
Am strongly considering a Karas Fountain K next.
Karas makes quality kit. I have more of them than most people would admit to.

I've had a fountain k in my pocket since the first release. Drop a Franklin Christoph nib in it, & it's just about perfect! Except it's mighty heavy in a shirt pocket!

The blue Jinhao was a freebie that came with a Reto51 order. The seller threw in a small ink sample as well, so I figured it was worth a test run. So far, not bad. Not outstanding, but promising.
