My first alox SAK, the Pioneer X. I really like the scales and the higher strenght of the "locks" ... plus I got the Vic lanyard as a gift from the shop. :)

I was holding myself off the alox because of the missing corkscrew but finally I realized how can I use the can opener to do so ... so, here I am ... :)

What I dislike a little is the nailnick on scissors but I'm practicing opening them and it's gonna be alright.

What I dislike a lot is the keyring nub ... with the way I'm used to hold the 90-odd mm SAKs it's really annoying. I generally like having a keyring on my knives as I use a mini carabiner to attach my house keys to them when going with my dog for a walk but this nub really annoys me. :(

I'll probably try to get used to it - but if I didn't, what is the best way to remove the nub on an alox knife? I did that with my Spartan (I used an iron saw and a file) but there I was able to remove the scales - here, I'm afraid of damaging the BEAUTIFUL :) alox scales ...

I managed to get rid of the keyring attachment point on my Pioneer alox using a Dremel. Just use a bit of tape to mask off the areas of alox near the nub in case you slip and carefully and gradually grind the nub away. Switched to a finer grit attachment to tidy up at the end and make the ground part flush with the liners. I can post a photo of the result when I get home later if you like :)

    Thanks! :)
What tape do you use to mask the scales near the nub, please?

Yeah, the Pioneer X has been introduced in the first part of 2016. :)
It's not bad, only as I said - the nailnick on the scissors is on the other side when compared with older SAKs, like the Huntsman for example.
PS: Posilam cesky pozdrav slovenskemu sousedovi. :)

I used Gorilla tape, but I imagine any thick tape will do.

Picture above shows the result. The small marks you see around the inner edge were caused by normal wear and tear I believe (not the Dremel).

I know this is OT here but I believe this would be the best way to ask ...

The perfect EDC knife for me would resemble the Huntsman (basically a Pioneer X with woodsaw).
    - the keyring nob moved slightly to the back so it wont push into my palm
    - four layers:
    1) knife + awl
    2) wood saw
    3) scissors (with the nailnick on the usual side, like the Huntsmans)
    4) can + bottle opener

What is the best way to aquire such a thing, please? Whom to contact?

91mm Compact with Phillips and awl in place of corkscrew and postal hook. Custom Titanium scales by Andrzej Woronowski in Poland.

ALM did make these and I think I may have gotten the last scales he produced, no way to know for sure but they have to be close to the last. These arrived just after the holidays and were part of an order I placed back in April. They were supposed to be a slightly different anodized finish but he mentioned one of the machines he used to do this work didn't make it to the new shop. I am certain he is done making custom SAK scales and has been for a while. I was just glad he honored his commitment to make these for me, I wasn't sure I was going to see them. He's a very pleasant guy to deal with, it's a shame he no longer does this work. I hope his knife venture works out.

I didn't know that, I assum Vic asked him? Did they ask the other modders, Lessard/Syph, etc to also stop?

I read about it in one of the SAK facebook pages...

I don't think Sakmodder suffered the same faith though as he is still active and coming up with new creations...
